I'd have to see the finalized trade to pass much judgment, but I think getting just about any reward for McD is going to be positive, assuming they weren't planning on keeping him around (which I'm okay with because I don't think he's that good).

2nd rounders are underwhelming though. Meh. Whatever

The only thing that disheartens me about the McDaniels trade is it seems like we got less value than some other teams. How is a washed Crowder worth five 2nds and McDaniels worth two? Mike Muscala fetched two 2nds and a throw-in, basically the same as McDaniels. Seems like McDaniels should have more value than him around the league.

And as Fatlever mentioned, it puts PJ in a commanding position for his contract negotiations.

Because it's Mitch.

He probably asked for one and they were like what? are you sure? Not 4?

sigh... okay... fine I guess I'll take two if you twist my arm...

The trade is completely fine. Mcd was ok. Not anything more and won’t be worth his extension. Chicken legs and inconsistent.
Hope they move Plumlee or Rozier.

Portland trade GPII back to Golden State. This makes a lot more sense for Portland now.

the disappointment is in the fact that this is a nothing deal. flotsam for jetsam. McDaniels was young but he wasn't moving any needles. but yeah, pocket lint for pocket lint here.

flotsam is probably more athletic but I really like the upside of jetsam. Don't sleep on lagan though

This late first/early second logic is such a fallacy. Who cares about one extra year a $1-2 million of guaranteed salary? It's not going to affect your cap barely at all if you cut a guy owed $1.5 million.

Seconds only get three years team control if you want to make them restricted free agents.
Firsts get four years then RFA.

If McDaniels was a late first we wouldn't be dumping him now for next to nothing as he'd be a restricted free agent.

Late firsts are far better than early seconds for this reason.

So if we do flip a pick this draft I'd rather it be the CHA 23 2nd as opposed to the DEN 23 first. If we hit we can control the team friendly contract for longer.

It's super obvious actually. We are a joke franchise so that 2024 CHA second will be early. Also they don't have to relinquish an asset for another 5-6 years if they wait until 2029

Is it thank you Charlotte for everything? OR Thank God I'm out of Charlotte?

Probably the latter

Based on this, I would assume this is how the assets were valued top to bottom.

1. Mcdaniels
2. Char 2023 2nd
3. Thybulle
4. 2027 2nd via Por/NOP
5. 2024 Knicks 2nd
6. 2029 2nd via Portland
7. Svi Mychailuk

Portland basically gave up 4th,6th and 7th best asset for 3rd asset
Hornets gave up 1st and 5th for 2nd, 4th and 7th assets
Philly gave up 2nd and 3rd best asset for 1st and 5th best asset.
