@Gambo987...in short, bull crap.

McDaniels is the EXACT player teams should be pursuing, talking about, trading for. Stretchy big, who can shoot, defend, who's nearly fully developed and can be had for relative cheap for Bird rights in the summer (you're buying the Bird rights by the way, Phoenix, with your 2023 first round draft pick and your underutilized young player Josh Okogie).

Hey, NBA...shhhhh.

People will be surprised with the interest McDaniels generates as a free agent. He's the perfect wing roleplayer.

I think he will cap out at the Tax payer MLE which will probably be right around 10 million. More than likely he probably gets between 5-8 million per year depending on how good of a team he goes to. Better the team less the money probably.

Did we ever get any clarification on whether or not the Hornets have any leverage in resigning McDaniels this summer? Is he a full unrestricted free agent?

He is UFA, but we have bird rights. So we can go over cap to resign him, just can't match offers so he is still a flight risk.

Question: for the people who hate PJ because he can't rebound, how can you advocate that McDaniels should replace him in starting lineup?

Jalen has grabbed 8 rebounds over last 3 games playing starters minutes.
PJ has grabbed 13 rebounds over last 3 games.

I don't think people think that. If PJ leaves, we need a new starting PF.

The argument for Jalen > PJ is based around the assumption that Jalen, while delivering similar production, will be a lot cheaper. I think most of us want to keep both of them.

Right, I would prefer to keep both of them I'm just trying to be realistic about what I think will happen.

As for the rebounding, I try not to tie team defensive rebounding down to specific players. It's a team mentality that needs to be fixed. We led the league in defensive rebounding with Cody Zeller Marvin Williams, neither of which would be considered good individual rebounders.

I like McDaniels and I would love to see him in our bench unit again next year. I don't think he's a starting caliber for though.

PJ and Jalen would get more rebounds if they didn't play with Mason Plumlee, one of the best rebounders in Charlotte history.

https://www.si.com/nba/hornets/news/jalen-mcdaniels-extension

In the current CBA there is a veteran extension rule which allows players on a 3+ year contract to be extended up to 120% of the NBA's average salary, this can be signed at any time during the contract. That means at any point between now and the end of this season Charlotte can extend McDaniels for a maximum of $58 over 4 years.

One thing I really like about jalen, when he gets the ball in the open court, he's almost guaranteed to finish at the rim.

He and Kelly are two of the best Rim finishers in the league, in my opinion.

Need some of that to rub off on Melo.

Good luck in Philly, J-Mac, funny one of my favorite Hornets goes to a city I used to call home. UNCNYC is gonna be sad.

I'll miss Jalen. One of the few players on this team that actually played both ends consistently. Our forward rotation is gonna be rough without him.

Sad to see him go.

Glad for the memories.

He was a really good investment. He was a late 2nd round pick that returned us nearly 4 2nd rounders. Not bad at all.

I think we could have gotten a tad more, but it seems ok if we draft correctly.

He brought it every night. And when others didn't, he never hesitated to SHARE WHAT LITTLE LUNCH HE HAD IN HIS LUNCH BOX.

What I mean by that is, he had an unselfish workman like persona about him... An every day Joe.

Wish him all the best.

Go HORNETS!!!

No ill will towards Jalen, he like Devonta Graham served his purpose. Gave us good production as a 2nd rounder and then yielded us a better pick then we selected him with.

Will be fun to watch Jalen box scores the rest of the year and see how he does in Philly. Have a feeling once we see what he gets paid this summer people will be more okay with moving on from him.

I was bummed at first about this deal, but have since mellowed out on it. I forgot where McD was selected, so to get back one of the first picks of R2 is a win. Also not losing him to FA for nothing and bringing back an overrated (IMO) player like Thybulle to clog up the wing is good.

Would have preferred more, but it's not like we're getting a late 2nd rounder or have to wait a decade to make the 2nd round selection.

Seems weird, it is almost as if because it is our own 2nd people are not pumped about it. If it were the Pistons 2nd would we be happier? I mean there isn't really going to be a big difference in terms of prospect between picks 25-40 based on previous history.

Hopefully Mitch learns his lesson and only signs 2nd rounders to three year deals so they become restricted free agents.

I think people are excited it's our own pick back because it's early and we control our tanking destiny.

I'm a bit bemused we had to give up what could possibly be an early NYK second next year though.

You just have to put a team option on the 4th year, that way you can opt them out and they become RFAs after three.

We seem to have done that with JT Thor.
