Welcome Yak!
I was one of those that thought the C wasn't as much as a priority as getting some backcourt help so I'm interested in seeing how/if things change with Poeltl.

Re: Welcome Back Jakob!
Love Yak as a player hes good but damn we really about to miss out on a top draft pick cause of this trade....We will likely make 9-10th maybe even just outside at 11th....We will be drafting like 14th-15th when just a week ago we were in the top 6 ....
Really sucks since i have 0 faith we can get a true number 1 option which is what this team needs...Stuck in no mans land

Re: Welcome Back Jakob!
Happy to have him back. Not enthused at the 1-6 pick protection on the pick, nor about paying him a lot of money in the offseason. But I'd rather have Yak at $15M than Birch at $7M - hopefully the number is closer to $15M rather than $20M.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Walt, you wanted to trade GTJ and picks for Poeltl. You have no right to gloat after saying that. lol. I hate the protections on that pick but I am happy we didn't give up any rotation players for him. Our team will be deeper and more productive because of it. Poeltl will get his 20-25 minutes a night and I think we'll have Fred/GTJ/OG/Pascal/Scottie close out games.
I was willing to trade non core players, but maybe Gary at a time when he wasn't playing well, and it would've been expiring for expiring. Also Suns wanted 2 FRPs at the time so it felt like the price would be high. It's great how it only cost us Khem, how the Spurs came down so much.
My main point all along was we needed a center to be adaptable and play big or small. Not have our forwards guarding big centers. There were several posters who said no we are fine with 6'9 guys and no big C. I'm glad Masai saw the need for a big as he said himself yesterday.
Yeah, in the last 24 hours I've been going through the same stages of grief as when we drafted Scottie over Suggs. And now I'm out the other side. Past acceptance and into full-on embracing the new reality.
Of course we couldn't break up the gang like that. We've been through a lot with these guys, and there's an emotional aspect to sports fandom. Of course we had to at least see what the team would look like with a legit C. Now maybe our guys can cover the 3-point line without running themselves ragged. Now we can see how Siakam and Freddie perform when they only play 35 mpg
Yikes what if we go on an amazing run, to second round say, and everyone plays together and plays great. How we going to keep 'em all for next year?
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

I agree, you were right about that. But the price you wanted to pay for Poeltl wouldn't have made us better, only worse. I always said I'd take Poeltl for cheap, I just didn't want to overpay for him. I don't like the light protections on that FRP we traded but I'm happy that we just added a good player in Poeltl without giving up any of our rotation players.
Interesting that the Celtics had interest in Poeltl as well. They must've wanted a bigger C.
I really thought Poeltl would have solidified Boston's title shot, especially if Horford or R Williams got hurt. I don't know enough about Muscala to know how much he'll help them

We were never going to get a top pick. Too many teams would out tank us.

People were projecting that Gary would get $20M but he ended up taking $18M. I suspect the discount was for the player option.

it was not the biggest priority but if poeltl starts, it pushes trent/barnes to the bench which improves our depth.

Wipe that thought from your mind. Then the whole team would want to stay together, and MLSE will be willing to spend into tax to make that happen. Horrors!
One more thing about Jakob. There was a game at the Oracle during the 2017-2018 season when Raps were without JV and Serge. So Poeltl started, scored ~20 points, and was clearly the best player on the court on both ends. For both teams. He was amazing. The game came down to the final minute, and Jak had the ballcarrier Durant in jail at the 3 point line, but another Raptor stupidly came over to help and left Steph open. Durant zips the ball to Steph for the open trey, and that was the game.
I'm not sure we've seen everything Jak can do. But I have even seen him make a 3. My mind is imposing no limits on what the Raptors may accomplish this season.

The man literally said were in top 6 last week, what are you talking about? We had a 37 percent shot at a top 4 pick and a 19 percent shot at top 2. That is no where near “never going to get a top pick” territory.

We are sitting in 10 and going into the easier part of the schedule! We were never getting Wemby/Scoot get over it!

19 percent chance at top 2, 37 percent chance at top 4 = “Never”

Imagine being in favor of getting a mid C like Yak to maybe be the 9th 10th or even 11th in the east and thinking its better than staying in the top 6 with really good odds at moving up and getting one of the best prospects in NBA history....You are making a fool of yourself sir..

Is he still as athletic as he used to be? Seems a bit slower nowadays but he’s 7’1” which is a lot taller then I thought he was as well
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars
Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid
There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.
