well that explains the wait
wonder if they'll take months to "investigate" and tack his suspension onto next season instead of this one

Soo I guess the NBA is still conducting an investigation?

Some site posted that they expect negotiations to resume or complete after the trade deadline, with the Hornets likely signing Bridges shortly before he would serve his NBA suspension. I think everyone is plotting out the timing so his signing and suspension serve to take the edge off of backlash locally, allowing him to begin doing various service projects and counseling for PR, then actively back on the team next season.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Whatever suspension he serves definitely bleeds into next season even if he signed today, right? Only 30 games left.

I'd assume they'd factor in the games already missed. Maybe not though.

Update from the brain trust:
As for Bridges, the team’s leading scorer last season, Kupchak offered little in the way of the team’s plans with him moving forward. For now, Bridges remains a restricted free agent.
“The NBA is conducting an investigation and I don’t know when that is going to end,” Kupchak said. “When it ends, we’ll have more information and we’ll go from there. I’ll leave it up to you to decide what kind of impact that had on our team this year.”

"we’ll go from there." - implies they are planning to resign him (shouldnt be a surprise and is the right move, imo, assuming he is following the terms of the probation)

Re: Negotiating A New Deal: The Miles Bridges Thread
I wonder if we resign Miles will be the same level player. If we do and draft well Hornets could win the chip.
UPDATED `10-22-2025
These are who I want with our picks in order
THEM - Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen
UNCNYC - Arthur Agee, William Gates

Settle down... we aren't winning any championships anytime soon, probably not in my lifetime.UNCNYC wrote:I wonder if we resign Miles will be the same level player. If we do and draft well Hornets could win the chip.
I think it's fair to expect miles to have a quite a bit of rust on his game and would not pick right up where he left off. Also, I think there's a 0% chance he's back in March. Even if he did sign in march, I think his suspension will eat into a chunk of next season. I also assume this is just another stunt from his agency.

A line up including (seasoned, matured and refined - games, minds and bodies) in their athletic prime aged - Ball, Wemby, Miles and Mark with some good to decent role players and a real coach could actually contend for titles in as little as 3 years.
We have a real shot to get something great going if the lottery gods bless the Hornets this time.

My hottest of hot takes...
If we somehow land wemby and he is the real deal generational Talent that you can build a legit Contender around) I would at some point (2 to 3 years) start looking to package Melo for a different vet all star type. As much as I enjoy watching lamelo and rooting for lamelo, when it comes to actually trying to compete for rings, I'm not sure he's the dude that I want to put my faith in. Just not sure I ever see his defense, leadership and maturity getting to a level of being the 2nd best player on a championship level team.
But that's an amazing Dilemma to have if it ever gets to that point. And 3 years from now, Lamelo might be an entirely different person...

These types of trades don't exist. When is the last time a current allstar was traded for another?
If we are trading LaMelo it will be for a bunch of picks, not another allstar more than likely.
If this were the 80's or 90's this kind of trade happened all the time.

simmons for harden
ad for ingram (soon to be allstar)
kawhi for derozan
westbrook for cp3
kyrie for isaiah, crowder
pg13 for oladipo/sabonis (soon to be allstars)
sabonis for halliburton (soon to be allstar)
mitchell for lauri (soon to be allstar)
big trades between stars still happen
don't get hung up on "current all-stars", take what i'm sayng at big picture level. if you disagree, tell me that you believe that melo can mature into the type of player who can be 2nd best player on a title contender. i'm skeptical of that evolution from him. would be cool to be wrong. in meantime. i'm no less thrilled to melo here being our fun highlight reel and occasional allstar.

Yeah I guess if a superstar demands a trade we could trade LaMelo for them, but I don't really think that would be the Hornets decision to make that deal. It is more a timing of the moment thing.
The way you wrote it seemed like a team like Boston would be like "hey we have a championship caliber player that we willing trade for another multi-time allstar just because" Those deals don't happen anymore. It is either a player demands a trade or a prospect in a deal works out. Nobody is just trading back and forth allstars out of the blue like they did in the 90s.

Re: Negotiating A New Deal: The Miles Bridges Thread
Miles coming back seems inevitable, but yes I figure his suspension will be around 30-40 games which means part of next season assuming they resign him in the next few weeks. Can he practice with the team if he’s suspended?
LaMelo has really started to come on the last few weeks. He’s not just chucking shots every chance he gets and it’s leading to a more efficient game with winning impact. He’s 21 and has a long way to go but even in the post game interviews he’s coming across as maturing. He looks tremendous next to a rejuvenated Hayward. We need a player next to him smart and consistent like that. Maybe a mature Miles can be that only more dynamic.

Re: Negotiating A New Deal: The Miles Bridges Thread
So do we think new ownership will take the PR hit and sign Miles Bridges this summer? Or will MJ and Mitch do it on their way out to take the heat off them?

Re: Negotiating A New Deal: The Miles Bridges Thread
Ok so now that we’ve gone the whole season with the Hornets pretending Miles Bridges never existed, what the hell is the plan?
