Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

Well done Jays/Bo!
Avoid the acrimony/get cost-certainty. Bo gets his due and the asset is secured for play, trade, extension, anything.

A three year deal buys out all his arb-eligibility, but doesn't extend our control at all, yeah? Great for Bo, if that's the case.

imho who cares. and I'm 99% pro-management on contracts. will still be underpaid for 3 years, and no other team is going to rue the fact that they don't have to battle him in arbitration for pennies if we happen to want to trade him under these terms.

I'm a bit worried about the lack of an long term extension for Bo. This extension doesn't give us more years of control of Bo's services. Maybe Bo is asking the moon, damn it we need to keep him

It's like what we did for Matt Chapman, bought his arb year, but likely not bring him past it. Probably the same for Bo. Keep him here for the next 3 or 2 years, and then either trade or watch him walk away.

The thing is Chapman's batting has a lot of old ballplayer skills, that don't age well. So it makes sense to go short term with him.
Bo has very good bat-to-ball skills, which means he is likely to maintain and improve offensively, and if his defense can continue to improve (looking at how poor defensively Marcus Semien started his career at SS) he is perenially all-star. And he's already one of the two key faces of this franchise, and a fav among many fans. We need to lock him up.

Its supposedly the highest 3 arb that any SS will get so far.

That's basically impossible, I think? Lindor got $22.3m in his final arb season (not even sure if he's the highest, I haven't checked), pretty difficult to imagine that Bo is only getting $12m in his first two years of this deal.
**** your asterisk.

This is what Blake said in his drive time yesterday. It supposedly higher opening salary years, than any SS that so far gone through ARB system, and for each year. I don't know how he arrived at those numbers.

Something is definitely wrong with his math, unless the released terms are incorrect. Lindor got over $50m in his three years of arb:
https://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/national-league/new-york-mets/
1 year/$22.3M (2021)
re-signed by NY Mets 1/15/21 (avoided arbitration)
1 year/$17.5M (2020)
re-signed by Cleveland 1/10/20 (avoided arbitration)
1 year/$10.55M (2019)
re-signed by Cleveland 1/11/19 (avoided arbitration)
Bichette's maxes at $40.7m.
**** your asterisk.

Does the jays cap number go up to 11m this year for Bo to reflect the AAV ( 3/33)?

$3,933,333
2024
$12.083
2025
$17.583

is it because they were 1 year each for Lindor?
