So you're saying that the Magic won't be a perennial play off team until 2025-2026? When Franz is Year 1 of his max extension and Paolo's already agreed to his?

How long do you think rebuilds take? The Magic should be a playoff team starting next season, and if they're not something went way wrong.

A perennial playoff team is a team that is consistently in the playoffs, right? Yes, year 5 the rebuild should be complete.

Rebuilds take between 3 and 5 years. I don't think Durant got out of the 1st round until year 8 or 9. They lost in the 1st round of the playoffs 4 straight years.

They may make the playoffs this year or next year.. but things happen i.e injuries, players unhappy with their roles, bad match ups in the post season.. to be consistently in the playoffs (i.e perennial) your players have to be mature and entering their prime. You think that takes a year or two or three?

You're expecting them to contend in year 5? That's insane.. they're just kids. Fans usually just have unrealistic expectations for their young players.

Another tidbit because I'm adlibbing.. an NBA player just begins to enter his prime at 25. All your players need to enter their prime before you can start even thinking about contending. 5 years.

Jalen Suggs 21+3 24
Paolo Banchero 20+3 23
Franz Wagner 21+3 24
Cole Anthony 22+3 25
WCJ 23+3 26+
2 rookies 18-19

Year 2 right now.. in 3 years it will be year 5. Totally reasonable and realistic forecast.

Are you thinking of someone else?

Durant by year…

Rookie: 20-62
Year 2: 23-59
Year 3: 50-32, lost in round 1
Year 4: 55-27, lost in the conference finals
Year 5: 47-19, lost in finals

Aha... year 4 and 5 I was counting the wrong way. Either way.. year 4 they contended. Giannis.. didn't win until year 6 or 7.

Durant also shouldn't be the barometer. I'm just spitballing of the top of my head at work.

Curry didn't make the playoffs until year 4.

All I’m saying is that the Magic need to be aggressive because their current cap space is finite. They have to pay all these existing guys eventually.

Is the franchise’s ultimate ceiling predicated on Paolo and Franz reaching their respective ceilings? Probably.

But if they wait too long, the won’t be able to supplement the roster appropriately because they’ll have used up all their resources retaining the guys they already have.

I don't have an issue with that. I'm speaking in generalities. Year 5 things are really clear.
