Re: GP2?
GP2 is a final piece you add to a roster that's making a championship run. Are we doing that? IF and it's a big IF... Dame can package the performance he had against the sorry-ass Pistons, I honestly think we are just a trade (or two) away from being really, really good.
GP2 or Keon, Future draft picks, Hart or Winslow, along with Watford, GB3, Walker etc. are what I'm selling if I'm Cronin. Hopefully we can use these assets to acquire a Mark Williams and Rui Hachimura. That would be ACES for me, but something at least this good would be ideal IMO, and could launch us into the top-4 for years to come.

Golden State can take it or leave it. No renegotiation. If returned, he can sit behind the bench in a suit for the rest of the season (if media Twitter types are to be believed). Golden State doesn’t have to go away mad … they just need to go away.

I think a few posters here owe GPII an apology.
so, you're like Dwight Jaynes and just accepting that the blizzard of PR coming from Payton and the Warriors is gospel?
this whole thing already smells really fishy, and it just started a half hour ago

Re: GP2?
This dingus gm might cost us a first round pick with this bs. I'm done with cronin, how you manage little things is how you manage big things imo and this is pretty bad. If it looks like the nba will go harshly I'd see if we can send GS the nyk pick and take out some seconds. As bad as it would make the deadliine maybe it saves us an unprotected first in the future courtesy of an NBA penalty

There are no penalties for a player failing a physical. GS can either chose to void the trade, or ask for compensation. I'd offer to give them back one of the second round picks, take it or leave it. Even if Payton misses the rest of the season (unlikely, given that he's actually been playing and being effective), they still have him for the remaining two seasons of his contract.
GS wanted him back and I suspect they were the ones that initiated the trade talks.

"Blizzard of PR"? LOL. Seriously? He failed a physical. The results of the physical need to be presented to the league in order to void the trade. Get a grip. This isn't PR, it's an injury.
Why would GSW fabricate PR to void a trade for a player they wanted badly enough to take on his contract and the associated tax burden? Your "theory" doesn't hold water.
Now I remember why I had you on ignore. So, you're like John Canzano - a clueless **** stirring troll?

Only 2nd rounders were involved for Portland. And if GSt wants to mess with 3 other teams, they can pound sand. Payton will be tradable at the end of the season to anyone but Golden State. If they want compensation, they can go fish. If the League goes along with their objection, then it’s off. I’m not about to immediately give Golden State the benefit of the doubt or expect Cronin didn’t follow rules, or procedures as some have tweeted.

The violation would be covering up putting gp on pain medication and not disclosing that to gs

Not only on here, but on twitter. I've seen countless people also there call him a grifter, a thief, attention-seeking, weak, greedy, etc.
It's ridiculous stuff full of vitriol.
Really made me sour on some fellow Blazers fans. Just pitiful stuff. The lack of humanity and empathy is stunning.

Re: GP2?
Warriors fans were not happy they didn’t keep him.
Now, they can cut him loose. And then their fans can be unhappy all over again.
Portland can take him back.
It’s not about the Knicks’ pick, so I don’t care.

Re: GP2?
If the training staff was forcing him to take medicine and tell him to gut through it then that's a huge red flag for a number of reasons. I want to know the fully story there. We shouldn't be doing that to players at all. That's some bullcrap.

Re: GP2?
GP apparently wasn’t able to cope as well with his core surgery compared to Dame and Nas.
His situation may be different than theirs. Or maybe it’s about pain tolerance. Or whatever it is.
Fans like me simply don’t know.
If anything, let’s just blame Golden State. They’re not as annoying as the Lakers, but too many in the media kiss their collective butt at every opportunity.

Since the above statement doesn’t pass the smell test … “forced him to play” … Is that a paraphrase by a sports writer? If it’s not directly from GP … then who is the source? [No subscription to the athletic, so I’m just asking.]
EDIT: I just read a few stories with the same currently unsubstantiated claims — lacking direct quotes — were repeated. It’s not journalism. It’s bad writing. We’ll have to wait for actual reporting, but the Blazers denials are unequivocal on the being forced part.

"Payton has been playing through a core muscle injury and the Blazers' training staff had been pushing him to gut through it with Toreador shots. This information had not been relayed to the Warriors during the negotiations."
I hadn't seen this information at the time of my post. That last sentence, if true, changes everything.
Return to Portland Trail Blazers
