Magic May Waive RJ Hampton

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Feb 12, 2023 8:23 pm

The Orlando Magic are considering a buyout or straight waiver for guard R.J. Hampton. Orlando has already agreed to buy out veterans Patrick Beverley and Terrence Ross.

The Magic declined Hampton's fourth-year rookie scale team option. That signaled that the guard's time with the team was likely growing short.

Orlando acquired Hampton in a 2021 trade deadline deal that sent Aaron Gordon to the Denver Nuggets. After playing over 20 minutes in his first year-plus with the Magic, Hampton's playing time has fallen off in his second full season in Orlando.

What happened with Hampton? Did he just not develop?

There are a number of teams that are case-studies for contraction. My hometown Orlando Magic is one of them.

Hard for him to get PT when you have Anthony, Suggs and Fultz..Magic have a history of not developing young players.

So it's more of a player management issue than faults in Hampton's game. Got it. Any tanking teams looking to scoop him up?

Plenty of teams should give him a look for the rest of the year

Houston, Utah, Chicago, DC, etc.

Would be a good fit for Houston, he’s from Texas and they need another ball handler.
