We have his bird rights, morey in his press conference mentioned he could see him starting for the sixers down the road. That tells me they’re interested in him more then just this year.

Well, he's still young and can improve, and could be a very efficiënt 4 next too Embiid. In that regard, although not as good a player, a much better fit than Tobias.
I can see the plan is to move Tobias when his contract is expiring, and if McDaniels is a cheap replacement as a 4, we can use the money to search for that elite 3-player. Would Jimmy want to come back?

Another option, letting Maxey and McDaniels move into the starting lineup with Tobias being the designated sixth man. Tucker still needs limited minutes, but he seems to fit with the starters right now.
