Jalen McDaniels won't make Sixers debut Friday.

I saw that.

Why do some want a 6'5 37 y.o to play back up center? Idgi..

Until further notice he’s probably our best option. Doc is straight up not gonna play Reed and Trez is awful. I’d rather go small ball with PJ than the currently available alternatives.

I don't know how they'll adjust the lineups, but in the playoffs it would make some sense to have Jalen, PJ, Tobias as the front court for the bench. During the regular season I'm guessing you'll see more Niang and Harrell instead of the 2 starters.

If you play the right type of defense around him it can work. Miami did it last year, Houston used it hardcore as a starter and they were just switch heavy. If you aren't switch heavy, they have to at the very least double the post when he gets backed in too far.... Some of their attempts at using him at the five this year.... They fail to do that. So Porzingis for instance just shoots right over him. It's also tough to do though when you don't have good rebounding guards, and you likely need similar players on the wings. Here's my reasoning for wanting to see Jalen and Tobias play with him if they go that route... Harden and Westbrook were good rebounding guards in Houston, as was Miami's back court last year... Not so much Maxey and shake. But I think they can steal 13 minutes

He's available to play tonight, FWIW.

We have his bird rights, morey in his press conference mentioned he could see him starting for the sixers down the road. That tells me they’re interested in him more then just this year.

I think McDaniels will make our bench better on their dribble drive offense, Hornets run the same system and he thrived with it.

Its important for our bench to be great on their dribble drives to not get neutralized with good switch defense like what we saw against the Celts.

Milton, Melton, Niang and McDaniels are very good on dribble drive.

Well, he's still young and can improve, and could be a very efficiënt 4 next too Embiid. In that regard, although not as good a player, a much better fit than Tobias.

I can see the plan is to move Tobias when his contract is expiring, and if McDaniels is a cheap replacement as a 4, we can use the money to search for that elite 3-player. Would Jimmy want to come back? :P

Already Glenn DNP’s the guy  I know he’s hasn’t practiced with the team or anything… but a few minutes just to see would’ve hurt something?

The plan better also involve firing Glenn after the early exit these playoffs. Or else any changes they make won’t matter.

Seems switchable. I'm hoping this guy is good enough to start. Might allow Maxey to get back into a lineup with Harden.

Maxey
Harden
McDaniels
Tucker/Tobi
Embiid

Melton can sub out any of Maxey, Harden, and McDaniels depending on the lineup vs opposing line up.

With small sample size and bad culture teams like Hornets, the best is to just look at trendings, and at least McDaniels RPM has improved since he is with Sixers, which is nice to see.

Jimmy loved his tenure as a 76er. You would think he played several seasons for the team.

Nice little breakdown of the debut with clips of all the relevant plays, little repetitive and some of the claims are way over the top but it's YT so gotta expect to ignore some stuff.

Doc will make sure all his minutes will now go to dedmon...even if they don't play the same position.

He needs to start over Tucker.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:

Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Grimes/Edgecombe/Gordon
Oubre/Edwards/Council
George/Watford/Walker
Embiid/Bona/Drummond/Broome

Another option, letting Maxey and McDaniels move into the starting lineup with Tobias being the designated sixth man. Tucker still needs limited minutes, but he seems to fit with the starters right now.

For better or for worse, and generally for better.... Harris has been the Sixers 2nd best 2 way player. He has struggle on both ends in the last week or so.... But still that's not a guy you want coming off your bench. It may be a guy you need to give a couple of nights off though.
