Being honest, even with some of the disappointment of this season, it's really strange to me how people pretend like Minnesota wouldn't be in the dumpster record wise if the Rudy Gobert trade was reverted.
"BUT LOOK AT THE RECORD WITH HIM PLAYING AND WHEN HE DOESN'T!!!"

Check the previous threads, I was against this and every other trade this idiot of a GM has made. He should have been at best an AGM. Scouting and free agency have been good for him, he should stick to that. Getting fleeced by Danny Ainge twice? Even Billy King wasn't that stupid.
How did we get fleeced in the Conley trade?
No response? Typical.
I already explained in another thread if you have an actual take go respond there. It's not my job to copy paste **** for you.

Fine since you're being a little ***** about this I'll answer.
What was DLo to us? He was our starting PG.
Mike Conley is also a starting PG which is great. However here is where things break down. Conley as a whole is a declining player. He was an amazing player. He's definitely not that guy anymore.
And it's a significant drop off. He's not even cracking starter minutes any more and his percentages across the board are dropping.
DLo on the other hand has been getting better and is in surprisingly his most efficient season in some time. He's not a good fit here, but that doesn't mean he can't be a good fit elsewhere.
Meaning our future value with Conley will go down, and he can't be starting PG for much longer. I'd be happy with him as a backup BUT we also have no one who can command the offense atm.
There is no backup plan, atleast not one that doesn't rely on trades or getting lucky in FA or the draft.
So. Let's evaluate that.
We just traded a player who is having his most efficient season to a team behind us.
We also have our PG position in decline bar some miracle.
Our Center position in Gobert is also in decline apparently.
And we traded a lot of our picks to said team.
So yeah its a long game, but Ainge just watched our team get worse in the long term while holding onto our picks cackling like a mad man.
If you don't understand this then I can't help you.

If you find one post of you saying that you forsaw Karl-Anthony Towns missing the majority of the season, I will PayPal you five dollars. Absolutely zero shot anyone predicted that the season would be nuked by injuries.

What was DLo to us? He was our starting PG.
By his own admission Russell wasn't and isn't a PG. He actually blamed his early struggles on that idea. But sure, he was a starter for us.
Mike Conley is also a starting PG which is great. However here is where things break down. Conley as a whole is a declining player. He was an amazing player. He's definitely not that guy anymore.
Conley is an actual PG, which is a point in his favour, but he is declining. So what? He's a better fit for this team when KAT returns, a better locker room presence and in several areas still better statistically than Russell (fun fact, 35yr old Conley has a higher FTr than Russell).
And it's a significant drop off. He's not even cracking starter minutes any more and his percentages across the board are dropping.
He's at 29mpg to Russell's 33mpg.
DLo on the other hand has been getting better and is in surprisingly his most efficient season in some time. He's not a good fit here, but that doesn't mean he can't be a good fit elsewhere.

So you're betting on a historically inefficient and streaky player continuing a less than half a season hot streak moving forward? And honestly, outside of career best efficiency, what else is he doing at an above average level? His defence sucks, he's a poor game manager/PG, his effort is atrocious and he's apparently an issue in the locker room. If his efficiency dips to even average levels he's near unplayable. Let's max him!
And given the team was shopping him for several seasons and this is the return we got...maybe it's safe to assume others in the NBA aren't all that interested in him either? Sure as hell not at the price he seems to be asking for as an "Alpha".
Meaning our future value with Conley will go down, and he can't be starting PG for much longer. I'd be happy with him as a backup BUT we also have no one who can command the offense atm.
I don't understand what you're driving at here.
Yes, he isn't a 36mpg player anymore. He can still start easily enough and we can bring someone off the bench to play the 20-25mpg he isn't. The offence can clearly be "commanded" (whatever the **** that means) by Ant and KAT...as it had been recently (Ant) and at the start of the season/previous seasons (KAT). In fact, a lower usage player with a low turnover rate might be a better fit in that scenario, wouldn't you say?
There is no backup plan, atleast not one that doesn't rely on trades or getting lucky in FA or the draft.
You have no idea what their plans are.
See, this is the problem. People like you create some fictional scenario in your head with little if any evidence to back it up. You then try to use that BS as a stick to beat anyone that disagrees with it.
The only things we know for sure, future wise, is that they wanted to keep the salary slot open.
So. Let's evaluate that.
We just traded a player who is having his most efficient season to a team behind us.
So what's your alternative here?
Not trade him at all? Trade him to a team we're chasing? Trade him out of conference?
Should we have extended him? At what price? Do you give up the opportunity to use the MLE and/or extend Reid for it?
We also have our PG position in decline bar some miracle.
Just gonna disagree with that.
Our Center position in Gobert is also in decline apparently.
And this.
And we traded a lot of our picks to said team.
So yeah its a long game, but Ainge just watched our team get worse in the long term while holding onto our picks cackling like a mad man.
If you think our future hinged on D'Angelo freaking Russell then...well, to use your own words, I can't help you.
If you don't understand this then I can't help you.
You still haven't explained how we got "fleeced" (your term) nor have you presented anything resembling an alternative.
But yeah, I think I'm done too. No point in discussing anything further with you.

You really can't see the big picture. You stated off with semantics. Even though we can al agree that we were tired of Dlo you can't deny that he was a great PG this year for us because we needed his scoring and he was better than last year.
If anything. please remember this. STOP COMPARING LAST SEASONS START TO THIS ONE TO PROVE A BAD POINT.
Did you forget that the team didn't yet buy in to what finch was doing yet and we also had new players? Kat got injured then Naz showed that he was a starting Calibur center. Jaden showed that he was a great defender but fouled out way too much. But we got our ish together and started to crush teams. because we had fun and the players fit with each other. The new player we have now need to be spoon fed by other players.
Rudy was a bad trade period. No need for a crystal ball, just eyes and common sense. He will in fact get older, slower and have more injuries. He can't even win jump balls anymore haha I don't know the stats but has his production beat out the four players we gave up? How about when he's in street clothes and they're still playing?
He rebounds but by his being slow and not able to guard the perimeter he's a liability defensively to players who know how to score in the midrange and have flouters or can use the backboard (Ja, Towns and every PG who can score have abused him)
Did anyone notice that the Grizz didn't even play Adams?? you'd think that they'd play him against Rudy. But' Rudy lack of speed and athleticism can't even beat out Clark.
outside of knowing that we would have been better off waiting and running things back we would have had way more trade capital to get an actual replacement for DLo. Not this extra year of time in hopes of getting something for Conley.
And even this move brings no stability to the team.Conley is a stopgap and nothing more because he's too old and the players and other gms know that.

Better stated than me. Thank you.
We didn't even need to run it back if we got a long term potential solution (or a couple) in return.

So let's unpack this a little;
1. I am debating whether Russell is actually a PG, which is an important distinction to make. But if the overall point is that he was having a good season for us then that's a point I'll concede (at least offensively).
2. We've needed his scoring since KAT was out. Once KAT returns a lower usage, higher efficiency (and that includes turnovers, not just %s) player is a better fit.
3. He was only better in terms of scoring efficiency. Most of the rest of his stats were either the same or worse (lower AST%, higher TOV% than last season, for example. Also lower RBD% which is...honestly impressive).
If anything. please remember this. STOP COMPARING LAST SEASONS START TO THIS ONE TO PROVE A BAD POINT.
Huh? Where did I do that?
Did you forget that the team didn't yet buy in to what finch was doing yet and we also had new players? Kat got injured then Naz showed that he was a starting Calibur center. Jaden showed that he was a great defender but fouled out way too much. But we got our ish together and started to crush teams. because we had fun and the players fit with each other. The new player we have now need to be spoon fed by other players.
I don't want to misrepresent your point so I can just clarify...are you arguing that last season's slow start is acceptable because we had new players that needed time to gel? But this season isn't acceptable because Rudy can't create his own shot?
I also wouldn't say we "crushed" teams last season. We played well but were still a 7th seed with a fair few bad losses along the way.
Rudy was a bad trade period. No need for a crystal ball, just eyes and common sense. He will in fact get older, slower and have more injuries. He can't even win jump balls anymore haha I don't know the stats but has his production beat out the four players we gave up? He rebounds but by his being slow and not able to guard the perimeter he's a liability defensively to players who know how to score in the midrange and have flouters or can use the backboard (Ja, Towns and every PG who can score have abused him)
Did anyone notice that the Grizz didn't even play Adams?? you'd think that they'd play him against Rudy. But' Rudy lack of speed and athleticism can't even beat out Clark.
I mean, have people forgotten Gobert has played in all of the Memphis games? And that we've beaten them twice this season?
I get people have short memories but...seriously? It seems odd to whinge about Gobert there when it's obvious that both teams just perform better at home than on the road (we're a terrible road team if anyone is curious).
outside of knowing that we would have been better off waiting and running things back we would have had way more trade capital to get an actual replacement for DLo. Not this extra year of time in hopes of getting something for Conley.
See, again, you don't "know" anything.
Just for fun, say we hadn't done the Gobert deal. What's a trade you believe is realistic that we could have done for a Russell replacement this season? And yes it has to be this season because it's clear both sides were too far apart on contract terms so an extension wasn't possible.
And even this move brings no stability to the team.Conley is a stopgap and nothing more because he's too old and the players and other gms know that.
The stability of this team revolves around Ant, KAT, Jaden and now Gobert. Having a stopgap PG isn't the end of the world nor do I think the players care if someone is "longterm" or not.
And again, this whole thing started because Note claimed we got fleeced in the Conley trade. And I still have yet to see anyone back that up with anything other than "but the Gobert trade was bwad!"

"BUT LOOK AT THE RECORD WITH HIM PLAYING AND WHEN HE DOESN'T!!!"
Like, come on, fellas.
Do you wanna make an actual factual argument to back that up besides cmon fellas?
Because we are now 4 games below .500 when Rudy plays and were even worse when KAT was healthy and they played together.
We had one of the deepest teams in the league and we traded away 3 good players plus one great draft pick from that team to get him, even putting aside the 4 future picks plus swap.
But but but he's 29th in win shares behind such luminaries at his position as Nic Claxton, Miles Plumlee, and Kevon Looney.
My eyes must be lying to me.
The guy who was supposed to be our rim protector looked like a very tall traffic cone out there yet again against Memphis.
So either he's playing hurt or he's nowhere close to being the guy we were all sold.
I hate the trade, hated it at the time and hate it even more now.
But unless he starts playing much better interior defense over the rest of the season, I'm starting to lean into the idea we are going to have to trade him before he turns into a toxic contract.

Re: Minnesota at Memphis, 7 pm
Rudy in certain matchups is a liability and those players should not be paid max dollars in their 30s. All we needed was a Kessler.
Lets see, who could I get at pg for an expiring DLo, Beasley and 5 1st round picks to attach to them...hmm that's a hard one.But at minimum I would have taken Bones and tried to get Ruri. I've already gone through y gm moves in another thread.
In life the stability that ant had got taken from him twice, then his NBA mentors were traded away twice (Rubio and Pat) Ant clearly needs someone other than his gf to be a voice of reason. Towns? haha we had KG and let him go. Jaden needs it too as well as Naz and the rest of the team We just have Prince. Gobert? ....no, you still don't get how unstable he's made the team. well I blame Kahnelly.
I did. Conely is a stopgap when we needed a long term fix. and Danny also got the first if im not mistaken.

Just for fun, say we hadn't done the Gobert deal. What's a trade you believe is realistic that we could have done for a Russell replacement this season? And yes it has to be this season because it's clear both sides were too far apart on contract terms so an extension wasn't possible.

Even if Conley is a short term fix when we needed a long term one it doesn't mean we got fleeced in the deal to acquire him.

Well, Conley is more long term fix than DLo who wants max extension.

But is Conely realistically the long-term answer? If not he won't be here for long. But lets win this next game.

I think Conely is just here to be a vet and steady the ship. he will be traded or reduced to a role player in 9-18 months. The wolves will be looking for a young floor general to take over in the off-season and next year season.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.

How? We have no capspace or picks unless we want to draft a rookie in 24 and give him the keys. (Assuming we have a decent pick, but otherwise we're betting a lot on a mid to late pick)
Maybe an MLE? But that seems doomed too.
The best players that aren't a million years old or are off the table for sure are
Aaron Holiday are Schroeder, and Hampton.
That's the point of the negativity there doesn't seem to be any good options unless the plan is to trade KAT for a PG.

It very well may be a situation where the PG is changing year to year for a bit. It's not ideal, but I think it's possible. In a year, Conley will be a $24 million expiring who could fetch someone in the same salary range but with extra years, much like how Conley came here.
