He is the best option available from FA...

Justin Holiday may not be the best available FA, but he may be the best fit to what we need right now.

Never been impressed with Justin Holiday, especially defensively, but he's a better player than Theo and Frank, and more reliable and experienced than Hardy, so it's an upgrade.

We seem to be getting the wrong Holiday. Who I want for the team is Jrue, but we seem to have budget for Justin.

I still think the Mavs need an upgrade over Powell. I don't think the FA available can help solve defensive problems. Ntilikina and McGee are easily able to help more. Of course, if you're only looking for scoring punches, Barton makes sense. Barton can create better than Hardaway.

In case, it happens, Hardy will not be part of active roster.

Buyout candidate monitoring thread

Morris provides enough depth at the 4, but we really need a 7 footer, or at least someone who is capable of guarding one other than McGee.
Hoping Noel gets bought out.
Would love to add Noel and Barton.

Not crazy about the structure of our team going into the POs.

With the way the roster is currently constructed and assuming they don’t add any significant defense through the buyout market the Mavs may need to take the approach of just outscoring teams. I know Kidd prefers defense but he simply doesn’t have the horses to run that kind of race.

I used to like Justin Holiday when he was in Indiana. Underrated player (at least in that time). I have not seen him this year. In my opinion is a kind of smaller Reggie Bullock, hustles in defense and can hit the 3 at a good percentage. Limited in ofense, very coachable. I like the fit if he comes.

Addendum for anyone interested. Justin Holiday shot 40% 3PFG on catch and shoot attempts last year. Not bad for the minimum.

Just soak up minutes and don't be a negative while on the floor that's all they need.

Good pick up.

We can't expect a game changer from BO market. He is solid.

Who is he replacing in the rotation?

Right now even 1 win added might be the difference between a 3 seed or a 5-6 seed, so if he can give us one win I guess it's worth it. I'm not sure h has enough left in the tank to even do that TBH. I would prefer someone that can play at least playoff minutes though, however many they would be, but I don't think he's good enough to do that. I actually liked Stanley J with the Lakers last year and would much prefer him over Justin. I think even Whiteside would be a better pickup for us as he can at least produce and deter at the rim.

I guess they think Maxi coming back is going to be enough to protect the rim and grab rebounds.

Frank and Theo for sure, he can't be worse than those 2 honestly.

Stanley Johnson is bad 3 points shooter, i think he never was in the mix.

Whiteside is an enigma for me, very low BBQI but an athtletic freak.

AJ & Silva got 2 way contracts so they are not getting left behind.

15 man roster leaves us with
Luka
Kyrie
McGee
Wood
Green
Hardy
Hardaway Jr
Bullock
Powell
Max
Theo
Frank
Mckinley
Bertans
Holiday

I would assume Hardy is going to be ahead of Holiday just because Hardy is busy breaking out a little so you want to encourage his improvement to see how far he can take that development and see if he gets on through his rookie mistakes enough to contribute in the PO's and get penciled in as a core player for next year. Hardy can create and looks to have the handles to attack the rim effectively and is more of a PG sized guard that can create and penetrate where as Holiday is more of a 3&D wing capable of playing SF some.

At SF Green Bullock Theo and Holiday
SG Irving THJ Hardy
PG Luka Irving McKinley Hardy

If Holiday can fit in and hit threes then we got a decent addition.

Hardy is potentially a better player with his upside still evolving so I kind of think we will play him at the 2 behind Irving and possibly ahead of THJ given we just tried to trade jr.

Holiday is already 33 so there is nothing to develop he is what he is an insurance policy

Not surprise me if Holiday will play more minutes than Hardy.

I like this Holiday pickup. Nothing flashy but he's a good corner 3 point shooter and a decent defender. Used to pretty quick and have decent bounce but he's definitely lost some of it in the last few years. Imo he's a good mentor to AJ Lawson as they have similar games.

Hardy has a really loose handle, but I think he has great upside. I could see him being a consistent 15-18ppg scorer on this team in a season or two which would really help elevate our offense. His turnovers are brutal and he's constantly lost on defense, but I'd prefer to see him get minutes for his development. He could be big for us next year, the way Josh is this year except on the offensive end.

Kevin Love is getting bought out by the Cavs. Can he still add big man depth for Dallas?
