I've seen a ton of Wemby, but when I saw that second one on the youtube highlights, I think I actually laughed out loud... like how Giannis looks like he's playing on a Nerf hoop, but even more.

My grandfather died over twenty years ago, but he used to say they needed to raise the hoop at least five feet to keep the tall guys from dominating the sport.

Today, I finally admit you were right all along, Grandpa.

Scoot has like 3 sisters and 1 brother who all had knee surgeries in college, IIRC. Don't quote me. Heard on a pod last week.

Btw, I love him as a prospect, of course.

i guess the question for the one drafting him is what position to you envision him playing to protect his health? You don't want him banging inside that much, right? So the style of play of the modern NBA helps him obviously, but do you just start him at Small Forward so you won't have much physical demands if you push him to being PF/C?

Kid is not SF, he is PF and an eventual C, like Porzingis.

Banging inside against who? Aside from maybe Val and Nurkic, there aren't many inside banger Cs these days. Even Embiid likes to shoot threes and flop around for his points.

Wemby will be anchoring the defense but play like a wing on the offensive end imo. For a team like SA, imo you play him at C and Sochan at PF is a great defensive tandem.

I'm sure he'll get pushed around early on but he's hardly at risk playing center. Banging down low is relatively uncommon these days. And you are certainly not going to shift your entire line-up for the handful of players league-wide that do.

Yeah, that's true. Thinking more on the lines of Anthony Davis, who's injury prone and who maybe is forced to play being a big rather than a stretch. But we'll see i guess.

Playing as a big isn’t what gets guys this size hurt. It’s the speed of the NBA game and the constant running and cutting and stopping against top tier athleticism. Getting backed down by Sengun isn’t really going to hurt him in the long run and if he’s got wiry strength as he gets older like a KG or KD to a lesser degree he’ll be absolutely fine as a modern NBa 5 man.

He won’t play 5 in the NBA, will be a 4 with less defensive responsibilities. Will be able to provide excellent defensive support with his length without the physical wear and tear.

Kinds curious what people think his floor is.

For example on D, elite shot blocking/rim protection but potentionally struggles with size down low or out on the perimeter?

Offensively struggles to get separation off the dribble. His length and touch should mean he's always a lob threat and finishing around the basket when he gets position. Catch and shoot thread too, but maybe he never becomes elite there

He's a very mobile telegraph pole. My guess is teams will completely avoid the quadrant he defends, like they did with prime Kawhi or with Giannis back when he wasn't too concerned about fouling out. Some bigs will try to muscle him under the basket and it will not end well for them, he's just so long and agile that it doesn't matter how far you push him he will still recover and put a hand way over the rim. He might foul out a few times at the start until he gets the hang of it, and he will always be a rebounding monster.

Offensively teams will sag off him and he will probably have terrible 3pt shooting stats and it will take him a while to balance between shooting and passing. But he will make good use of the extra space in the NBA, he will go to the line a lot, and he will ultimately get his numbers although not very efficiently to start with.

A lot hinges on what kind of team he plays for.

I think playing with Haliburton in Indiana would be nice.

I took the Blazers as the lottery pack leaders for Wemby. Now, it feels like these pre-All Star Lakers just might squeak it out.

Indiana is probably the best situation for him.

Detroit is the best situation. 3 passing gaurds, and playing alongside Duren.

Milwaukee could say the same before Giannis

Don't get this post. Charlotte has never had a player of this level
