Post-deadline, I think the top dawgs in the East are still Milwaukee, Boston, and Philadelphia, probably in that order. I think the Bucks have won 9 straight.

Cavs IMO are 4th. I think not trading for a 3 and D wing will hurt them. If they get Miami in the 1st round, I could see the Heat being favorites. Brooklyn has won enough games that unless they sat everyone for the next 2 months, at worse they are in the play in. It wouldn't shock me if they finish in the top 6.

West, Memphis not going for it is concerning. They had all the picks and young players to make a move and didn't do it. I say Denver and Phoenix are at the top, the depth for the Suns concerns me a bit. Memphis 3rd, and you can pick a name out of a hat for the rest of the spots. I think the Lakers did enough to be in the play in conversation but not as a top 6 seed. At the end of the day, if Davis isn't healthy, they're not going anywhere.

I think it might be a sign of how highly valued 1st round picks are in the NBA. If teams aren't willing to part with them for anything short of a superstar, then there has to be something else to trade that has future value. A deal with 3 or 4 seconds is probably similar to trading "half" of a first round pick in the near future.

I think the Cavs may be counting on there being options in the buyout market.

Raps sign Wieskamp to a multi-year deal: https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/270459/Raptors-Sign-Joe-Wieskamp-To-Multi-Year-Contract

A Ruzious find & favorite if I remember rightly.

To add.

Suns - pushing for a title now with Durant
Clippers - pushing for this year also with Gordon and Plumlee
Lakers - pushing for the play-in with Mo Bamba, Russel, Beasley and Vanderbilt. To your point, this allows Davis to move to the PF to stay healthier?

Spurs still in full rebuild and added to that, Indiana seems to be freeing cap space for the future FA market and Nets going into full rebuild.

IMO the Nets are in a good position regardless of Simmons’ impact. Big fan of Mikal Bridges.

This is Simmons chance to become the dominant player on the team or part of a "big two".

They are also a bit deep at PG with Simmons, Dinwiddie, Mills & Sumner. I think getting Simmons back to being the PG would create some mismatches. They have been playing him at SG mostly.

And they are a bit thin in the FC, so I see additional trades coming in the off-season.

It would have been so great trading for him...but the Celtics got him at a decent price from SAS back in the day

Defensively, the front court of Claxton, Bridges and Simmons is pretty damn good + DFS and Cam Johnson. I think that OP on the general board is correct, if they can find an Alpha star, they become really good quickly.

Bassey always seemed like a tremendous bargain to me -- went #53 in 2021. Good for him.

A mere 22 picks after we zeroed in on Isaiah Todd.

I guess it's possible that SA has a better ability to find young prospects than we do, huh?

The Sixers actually waived both Bassey & Isaiah Joe last Fall. Both decisions are looking really stupid right now, given this news & the excellent season Joe is having with OKC.

Can I just say and probably totally never ever mention this again, but, I was 10000 percent correct all these years about Ben Simmons and I was 10000000000 percent right about him becoming one of the worst contracts in the league.

I can't argue with this. You were the biggest Simmons hater on this board and have been proven right.

Like over the years I've been here and over all the stupid takes I've had and all the dumb trade ideas. Usually I can see the counter points, I can go yeah that's a fair point eve if I don't admit it. But this one about Simmons Is the one I had no doubt in what so **** ever.

I remember the early days when they we just exploring the idea of trading Simmons and they were acting like they were gonna get a Paul George package for him or another wild offer that never came. I saw a credible report that OKC offered SGA for him not much else but my god can you imagine how the entire league would have shifted if that happened. How bad OKC would look. How good SGA and embid would be?

Lot of confusion online. Haslam didn't pay $3.5 billion for the Bucks. He paid some amount to buy Lasry's percentage which they put at a $3.5B valuation. In other words, if Lasry owned 20% that means Haslam paid $700M, if he owned 30% that means he paid $1.05B, and so on.

Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Marc Lasry has an agreement to sell his stake in the team to Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and Haslam Sports Group for a $3.5 billion valuation, league sources tell The Athletic.

Haslam will join the ownership group with current co-owner Wes Edens following a months-long process that included several meetings among the parties. Haslam attended multiple Bucks games throughout the process, including sitting courtside in Milwaukee for the 104-101 victory over Phoenix on Sunday and the Dec. 30 victory over the Timberwolves.

Sources with knowledge of Lasry’s plans said he will continue pursuing business opportunities in sports, including the potential ownership of another professional team.

Edens and Lasry bought the Bucks from Herb Kohl in 2014 for $550 million. As part of the sale, Kohl promised to donate $100 million to a new arena to help ensure the team remained in Milwaukee.

Under Lasry’s tenure, the Bucks fulfilled their promise of a new arena. Fiserv Forum opened in August 2018 and has led to tremendous business success around the building as the surrounding development, called the Deer District, has helped transform a portion of Milwaukee’s downtown.

Lasry’s nearly decade-long run as a co-owner — the last three and a half as the controlling governor — saw the Bucks emerge as a powerhouse on and off the floor.

The team turned into a perennial title contender while Giannis Antetokounmpo developed into a superstar and won back-to-back NBA MVPs, the first coming in 2019, during Mike Budenholzer’s first two seasons as head coach. After three seasons of consistent success, the Bucks won the 2021 NBA title, the franchise’s second championship and first since 1971. Key to that title was an offseason trade by GM Jon Horst that brought Jrue Holiday to the Bucks to form a big three with Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton.

Haslam, 68, is the chairman of the board of the Pilot Flying J truck stop chain. His father, Jim, founded the Pilot Oil Corporation in 1958, and Pilot Company is now the fifth largest privately held company in the United States, according to a Forbes list from 2022. Per Forbes, the company’s 2022 revenue was $41.9 billion and the company employs 30,000 people.

Haslam already owns the Browns in the NFL and the Columbus Crew in the MLS. He has been involved in the ownership of professional sports franchises since 2008 when he bought a minority interest in the Pittsburgh Steelers. He sold his minority stake in the Steelers to purchase the Browns from Randy Lerner and take control of the franchise for $1 billion.

Since taking over the franchise midway through the 2012 season, Haslam has watched the Browns compile a 55-113-1 record and make just one playoff appearance, in 2020. Haslam took over the Columbus Crew at the start of 2019 and the team won the MLS Cup in 2020.
