It totally depends on if we'd be getting Rose from the last few seasons. If it's that guy, he does everything better than Coby (aside from maybe defense). Better facilitator, ball-handler, shooter, creator, and significantly more consistent.

I don’t see any evidence that he’s still that guy after the ankle surgery. He’s looked absolutely washed in limited minutes. There’s a reason the Knicks, who are all in on winning now, slid his minutes to Miles McBride.

I honestly don’t see what he does for us. Not even a little bit.

That's the problem with all of the buyout PGs, none of them are any good. They used to be, but that doesn't help us now. Whether it's Russ, Wall, PatBev, whoever. The best of the bunch is Reggie Jackson, and he's merely decent at best.

We're not going to find our answer at PG in the buyout market. At best it will be an incremental improvement, at worst it'll be worse than what we're already getting out of the PG position, which is next to nothing.

The best of the bunch is still Russ. People want to blame him for the failures in Los Angeles but there's more to it. I believe that John Wall still could play the problem with him is that he thinks he's the John Wall of 2016/17. He put up good numbers in Houston his ego is the problem.

Vuc - if another team offers him 3/$60
Ayo - if another team offers him 3/$30
Coby - same as Ayo

Easy to say goodbye to Vuc for that. 2 and a TO/$45M I could do, I need to spend less at center to pay for more shooters and maybe take a step up defensively
No way I match that if another team puts on paper. I have to look hard at how much better Ayo is going to get. He's just not great at anything other than hustle and speed. Ball handling could improve just like Coby has worked on. He's pretty good on ball defender, are they going to get better defenders than DeRozan and Lavine on the floor with him? How does he develop better decision making if he doesn't have the ball more to make decisions? Is he going to be a better shooter that defenses don't leave alone?
For 3/$30 I keep Coby. I just do not see another team wanting him. Who is is going to see him as a starter? Why spend your FA money on an average combo guard when you could draft a kid late in the 1st for less? He looks like a 6th man given better shooters coming off the bench and shifting away from DeRozan or Lavine taking most of the shots with 3 other bench guys. I would like to see who they could change on the bench and have Coby and PWill pair up to lead 2 young and 1 vet bench guys.

How would we lose a draft pick?

Tampering in an NBA context refers to the act of a team's representatives speaking to players on rival teams to attempt to lure them to join their team

Precedent for it happening to us in the recent past:

McBride is an impactful defender, so it's not totally shocking Thibs would love him. Rose might be washed, but to start the season he he scored 12 or more points in 3 of his first 5 games despite never playing more than 16 minutes. But again, he may be washed, I just think we're vastly overrating Coby and Ayo if we don't think last season's Rose could be an upgrade.

I'm not blaming him for the Lakers' failures, that has nothing to do with why I don't want him. I don't want him because he's a ball-dominant, stat-padding, non-shooting, inefficient turnover machine who is bad at defense. He's the worst possible fit for our team.

As for John Wall, I wouldn't say a 50 TS% and a less than 2:1 TO ratio is good, but if you just focus on 20 PPG then yeah, he's good. Just like Russ's 16, 6, and 8 is good if you ignore everything else.

But I get it. People are desperate for any possible solution at PG.

I don’t doubt that last season’s Rose would be an upgrade. I’m saying that between the injury, his numbers, and falling out of the Knicks’ rotation there are a lot of indications that last season’s Rose is gone.

And Rose losing his spot wasn’t strictly about Thibs’ loving McBride, I don’t think. Otherwise, the Knicks wouldn’t have given up a first to rent Josh Hart, who’ll probably take McBride’s spot in the rotation.

I see a Rose signing as sentimentality more than anything. Which is fine, I guess. To me this season has zero stakes beyond losing enough games to keep our 2023 pick.

They were both rumors put out by reporters. They found proof during their investigation. That's the point of an investigation.

They investigated based on a rumor and then found evidence during the investigation.

If nothing comes of this it will be because the NBA picks and chooses when to enforce it, not because there's any more or less evidence or less justification than the Lonzo case.

Signing Westbrook is a win-win, regardless of what happens IMO:

1.) He helps us make the playoffs, great.

2.) He's a gigantic flop, pushes us out of the playoffs, and we potentially retain our pick.

3.) He's a big flop, we miss the playoffs, don't get our pick, but we put increased pressure on AKME, Donovan, etc.

4.) He drives down the price of Ayo and Coby by pushing them down in the rotation.

5.) If he plays well, he probably can be retained for the MLE and could theoretically make LaVine expendable.

Not really. The Lonzo thing was about the timing of the announcement by the agent and the NBA's stupid "no tampering period" (which everyone violates). That's what led to everything.

This is some reporter saying Billy has reached out to unspecified persons saying Chicago would be a good fit - which in of itself is less than the articles out of LA where Paul George and Marcus Morris are campaigning for Russ.

Two very different things, and I don't think this merits investigation. Still, if Billy actually did say that, he's an idiot.

Nah, tampering is talking to players before the official start of free agency. Free agency for this season started in July 2022. You can talk to any unsigned player right now. Heck you can ask Kirk Hinrich.

It's tampering because Westbrook is on the Jazz.

The only way it's not tampering is if Donovan or Westbrook's reps have received permission to talk to each other.

I believe a team complained to the league office which is why they investigated. They tampered with Tristan too but nothing came of it because no one cared. Is some other team really going to rat us out over Westbrook?

But it's still dumb that the org let that get out if true. They still haven't learned to have a player do the dirty work.

Nah.

Russ is on a team that's about to buy him out. Tampering would be offering him a contract before becoming a free agent.

What is tampering anyway? Whilst Russ was on the Wizards, LeBron and AD went and 'had lunch' with Russ to recruit him to the Lakers, absolutely nothing came of that. Isn't this essentially the same thing but Russ is actually going to be able to make that decision rather than asking to be traded.

I was very much against Westbrook but now I'm fully on board. This team is an absolute dumpster fire already so seriously what's the worst that can happen? There's no team chemistry and winning culture that he could affect anyway. He's a not a bad teammate, seems like a good guy and he does play hard every time he steps on the floor. Something that can't be said for a lot of the group.

The only realistic scenario is #3.

2 and 5 are about as unrealistic as you can get. In no context is Westbrook making LaVine any more expendable. There's also no way we keep our pick, the season is too close to being over.

1 and 4 are feasible I guess but not likely. It's much more likely that we make the playoffs than any professional GM being fooled by 20 games worth of limited minutes of Ayo and Coby.
