I wonder how this will affect broadcasting rights for the Magic in the medium term.

The Magic need to go back to showing games on both cable and a local channel, like when they were on WKCF. I’d never heard of Bally Sports before the Magic switched. They need free regional coverage.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

All I can say is that this has a chance to be really bad for smaller market teams like the Magic.

Hopefully that's not the case, but this has the potential to be really not great for a lot of teams.

Why not just go to streaming like Amazon or YouTube?

I’ve been paying for Bally+ streaming to watch these game, will that affect it?

Everyone saw this coming from a mile away. We've mentioned it as the eventual outcome in nearly every Bally thread. Hopefully the NBA steps in and figures out their streaming offerings. This shouldn't be that hard.

I don't recall when RSN sports deals with the NBA comes up again, but the NBA is going to assuredly rework the way they get these games to the fans. I have a feeling they get rid of the local "blackout" on league pass and just start getting games to fans themselves and cutting the RSNs out completely.

If the NBA had a league pass or a team pass subscription service I would strongly consider it. Cable isn't worth it, and with 2 kids at drastically different phases of life (11 years & 17 months) I do not have the time to fight traffic to make it to local games especially when iheartradio lets me listen in for free.

chapter 7 would be better, then maybe there would be a decent replacement coming online vs just attempting to shed debt through chapter 11.

Any add you see for them on social media is just people blasting them about the price...who the hell is gonna pay more for this to watch the Magic and Lightning than you would for ESPN, HBO etc...

I do haha, I love having access. Just add local games to the NBA league pass though and be done with it. I'd love having all NBA games to watch.

Do you have a VPN service? I have LP and use a VPN and it works pretty flawlessly. I just set my VPN location to Los Angeles and I'm good to go. It is annoying that the NBA forces me to use a VPN though.

I need to try that. I've tried it before and couldn't get it to work. But I'm a noob when it comes to hacks

Tonight’s game Pistons at Magic 7pm is not listed on the Spectrum channel guide anymore for Bally Sports Florida channel 50.

Was looking to find new info on the NBA and Bally’s and found this that happened last week:

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/37762861/diamond-sports-group-fails-pay-padres-loses-broadcast-rights?platform=amp

I hope we see the NBA do the same thing (stream games through league pass while lifting blackout rules)

"While we're disappointed that Diamond Sports Group failed to live up to their contractual agreement with the club, we are taking this opportunity to reimagine the distribution model, remove blackouts on local games, improve the telecasts and expand the reach of Padres games by more than 2 million homes," MLB chief revenue officer Noah Garden said in a statement.

Anyone who thinks this is anything but a catastrophe for MLB and the Padres is kidding themselves.

Bally's sends $60M/year to the Padres. MLB will send a fraction of that. Probably less than a 10th.

They also share rights with the other teams that they play.

Bally's has similar contracts with 10 other MLB teams.

I'm really hopeful that the distribution of NBA games is going to improve drastically. I really just want to be able to pay for one service and watch every NBA game and event.

I am aware you say every NBA game and event.

Some of us would settle for a sub service for our local team.

The fact that more models like this do not exist in the year 2023 is surprising.

My son & I simply do not have the cash to justify every single home game and giving us a monthly subscription doesn't change that we would like to go to at least 1 game next year.
