Brett Brown also did him a disservice. I remember him ranting about him being a point guard not a point forward without him even playing the position b4. Brett just gave him the keys without really working for it.You cant do that with young players.

Brett Brown had no shot. Coddling Ben was the only way to get the production we got. We've seen what happens to him when he faces any sort of adversity or criticism.

Blamed on, you mean.

Pretty ridiculous to blame Ben on Hinkie when the only report we've ever seen on the matter said that he preferred Ingram. It was also pretty clear that Colangelo was infatuated with Ben and would have preferred to build the team around him over Embiid.

Yeah thats what i also said. And the poster said Hinkie wanting Ingram was just a rumor.

The situation was also different back then. Most people here would prefer Ben over ingram.

So at that time, the person say Ben Simmons should be credited to Hinkie.

So now, the blame should be on Colangelo but the credit should be on Hinkie?

I mean.. hinkie was also going hard for Anthony Benett, traded Jrue Holiday for Noel and wanted to trade up for Andrew Wiggins. So i wouldnt be surprised if he wanted Ben.

Just as the guy said.. Colangelo basically just sleep walk his way in drafting Ben.

Why would Ben be attributed to Hinkie at all?

Colangelo sleepwalked his way through his entire tenure as GM. Doesn't mean he was a puppet whose strings were being pulled by the Hinkie deep state.

I don't care what a some poster said 3 years ago. Could have been me for all I know. I think it's a dumb argument.

Also, even in the scenario of Hinkie drafting Ben, you can argue he would be open to moving him at the indication he wasn't fulfilling his potential (what we call the MCW move) or to get a better player.

Colangelo was so invested in Ben, his entire sockpuppet accounts on twitter revolved around Ben being a better building piece than Joel

Perhaps if it was for someone better than Ben. I think the ship had long sailed on MCW-style moves. I don't believe ownership/the league would have allowed it. Otherwise, we would have seen an Okafor trade after his rookie year.

Ben had a documentary filming before he even went to LSU. And the documentary turned into how pointless he found going to college for a year to be. There was nothing surprising about his career to me. Should have been Boris Diaw from day one.

Well, a big part of why we got out of the Kawhi discussions early was that we didn't want to put Ben on the deal.

Obviously, all of this is hypothetical, but past moves suggest Hinkie would have been more open to putting Ben on that deal.

Hinkie was super close with Joel, the moment he felt that long time tension they have apparently had it would have been a Simmons pump and dump. All theoretical since we know ownership wouldn’t even empower the Jah trade, but if he could he would.

I watched this too. "One & Done" on Showtime. I remember watching this the summer of 2017 (or possibly summer of 2018 after that Celtics series) and saying to my wife "I wouldn't be surprised if this guy bolted for LA one day". Granted, things played out differently, but just by the kid's attitude and demeanor I was very grossed out from that doc. Just seemed entitled, lacked hunger, didn't show any of that mentality where he wanted to be the best.

I remember growing up people would knock Kobe for being cocky or arrogant, but the guy cared more about his profession than any money/success/status. Ben coasted as a teenager and believed he deserved everything in front of him.

“One day” will be this summer, probably.

I posted a couple months ago who will be the better player moving forward: Springer or Simmons. Think we know the answer now.

Was Devin Booker holding back Mikal Bridges? He is lighting up Miami tonight.

It’s kinda funny that the lakers had DLO, Randle, and Ingram at one point. Clarkson to a lesser extent. And a year later, loss DLO and add Lonzo. Not bad drafting during that stretch tbh. Obvi Lonzo was instead of Tatum, Fox, Mitchell, etc.

I’m still mad about that Westbrook trade. Feel like Silver had a hand in making that happen. Full conspiracy mode.

Simmons with another big game tonight. Even got booed when he came on in the 4th quarter apparently- never watched the match and just from what I read on twitter.

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
