The first iteration of the Skills Competition was the best. Actual stars in a longer, more complex course, competing for the best times. It's become so gimmicky and stupid for seemingly no reason. Same thing with the three-point contest with the all money-ball racks and most recently the 3-point shots.

The dunk contest meanwhile could actually use some gimmicks. Bring back the wheel or something.

You would think as progressive as Adam Silver claims to be…he would say “hey not a great idea” but I assume he’s brushing this under the rug and being a hypocrite like normal

NBA got away with treating Kobe like a God after all he did in Denver so they obviously think they can at least let Karl Malone judge a dunk contest.

People have a misconception of Utah. It’s great night life. They have a little different liquor rules like you have to order food with a drink but that’s it.

The people are beyond friendly and accommodating.

I won’t allow SLC to be slandered

SLC is awesome. Tons of great food and cocktail bars. IIRC the rules on beer are weird (they limit the ABV on draft beers) but it's not at all a dead city

Park City is an extremely popular spot for the ultra wealthy for nights like New Years and stuff. Park City is just about 30-45 minute drive from downtown Salt Lake. Ya there are no legit strip clubs in Salt Lake (so sorry Harden), but there are plenty of good bars and stuff downtown guys can hit up before going up to Park City and living it up.

Unless youre 100% only looking for the strip club night life, its pretty damn easy to have a very fun weekend in the Salt Lake area, especially if youre ultra wealthy.

We should have had Zion and Ja do the dunk contest by now.

You've just got to bring your own tribe, because you're not likely to meet a ton of cool new people going out.

All Star weekend just ain't what it used to be. Three point contest looks like it'll be the most entertaining event which is depressing

He gave the lamest reason too. "want to focus on the second half of the season", wtf? Was 1 night going to distract you that much?

NBA needs to put a clause in for incoming players, while on your rookie contract, if we ask you be in the Allstar event, you have to participate (injury permitting).

There are definitely strip clubs in Salt Lake, but there are some slight rule differences that are pretty common across the country but not universal (in most strip clubs in Utah, and I think all in SLC, they have to wear pasties). I have a good friend who was a stripper and she has had some pretty wild work nights.

Oh ya I know there are strip clubs, but I used "legit strip clubs" for a reason. There is a reason why strip clubs in Atlanta and Portland are talked a lot about. Basically my point is NBA guys arent going to come to SLC and be blown away by the strip clubs haha.

This looks like an all time low for the all star game.

So many scrubs.

How didn't the Nuggets get KCP or MPJ in the 3-point contest? KCP is 2nd in the league in shooting and MPJ is better than all but 2 of those guys in the contest. Jokic and Malone are the only representatives from the best team in the West is kinda weak.

Instead of going to bars or nightclubs, these players should do something different and go to national parks. Utah has plenty of great ones.. Zion, Bryce, Arches, etc. Experience something new for a change. Too bad, because the only player I can see doing this would be Kawhi :D

Utah hosting the All star weekend certainly wasn't on my bingo card. Definitely should be interesting. Lol.

Julius Randle in the 3-point shooting contest is funny af.

My guess is a lot of people will opt out of voluntarily spending a weekend in Utah by any means necessary.
