i felt the same way but yesterday he sucked me back in a little bit.

imagine for a second philly ben simmons running the offense, getting into lane and operating with bridges, cam j, dinwiddie camped out at the 3 point line and claxton catching lobs as defenders rotate.

and a defense where 3/5 got dpoy votes in the last 3 years...

If Kristen Winfield is correct, we could’ve landed Bam and sent Simmons to Utah, Mitchell to Miami but we backed out. That’s unacceptable and if KD knew that, I see why he’d leave too. That’s ridiculous.

A Miami reporter shot that down and said unequivocally that Miami never offered Bam for Mitchell. If they did, why wouldn't Utah take Bam instead?

I’m cooling on Simmons and if no improvement by next years trade period? Simmons then should be traded. It is no doubt this trade period had impacted him and coincided with a significant drop in form.

It is unfortunate Simmons hurt his back running up/running down stairs after he was traded. His back surgery recovery is about 12-18months. If I’m the nets, I would be encouraging Simmons to play for Australia at the upcoming World Cup.

Best thing for Simmons will be coming off the bench with no expectations. In addition, make him drive to the rim and if he doesn’t just pull him off the court.

I still believe in Ben to recover physically. He's still only 26 after all, so I won't be surprised if he's back running and jumping like the old Ben by next season which will be approx 18 months after his surgery.

The mental part of Ben is a different story. So I'm still out on him in the long run. If he's back next season doing his athletic 15-8-8 we should be able to find a team that will give us something of value for him which we should take on the spot.

Imagine for a second…Ben sitting on the bench in the 4th quarter in a tight game because the opposition doesn’t feel the need to guard him but he hesitant to attack the basket because he’s not confident he’ll make his free throws.

Are Cam Johnson and Mikal Bridges finished products? I am not asking if they can grow their abilities a little. I am asking if it is probable that they will make a significant leap?

They are both 26. With Mikal being 27 at the start of next season and Cam Johnson turning 27 in a few weeks, for context he is slightly older than Ben Simmons.

Claxton is 23, I can definitely see him improving significantly over the next few years. Cam Thomas is 21 same for him.

Usually at this age you know what players are. So let's see if their games become elevated in these expanded roles where we will need both to provide offensive firepower to balance our elite perimeter defe

i think to a degree they are what they are because they've had such a big impact already it's hard to see them having much more of one. I've compared bridges upside to middleton and i think by most metrics they are already very comparable, assuming he can maintain the efficiency he's shown with the recent higher usage.

for his career middleton averaged 17/4/4 on 46%/39%/88%.
right now Bridges is avaeraging 17/4/4 on 46%/39%/90%.

middleton's best years he got up to 20ppg on higher usage and in the last 2 months that's where bridges has been with booker out. his first 20ppg year was his age 26.

so if we take middleton as a reasonable/optimistic interpretation of bridges, taking a step back how many players are there who are better than middleton when he was at his best? not many, so if you want a higher upside projection it would have to be someone like kawhi or pg3. i wouldn't call those outcomes impossible but they are both highly unlikely outcomes bridges' current resume doesn't track with. those guys were dominant scorers early in their careers at their early 20's, which is a development curve that passed both bridges/cam a few years ago.

i'd gladly take khris middleton 2.0 and tayshaun prince 2.0 though. talk about 2 great players who would fit perfectly next to claxton (and simmons if he ever gets it together).

KD is good with me. He helped us to get The Twins and a ton of picks. I didn't know he felt this strongly about the guys here either.

Like I said, he took an indirect dig at Kyrie. And Kyrie deserved it

I actually feel the first one was more a bit more of a dig at Kyrie, specifically the "It's another story about why we didn't get on the floor together." Regardless, he was clearly blindsided and annoyed by the Kyrie trade demand.

BTW, this is an excellent episode of the crossover, an NBA podcast hosted by 2 very good NBA journalists (IMHO) in Chris Mannix and Howard Beck. This episode is comprised entirely of a lengthy, in-depth discussion between Howard Beck and Michael Lee of the Washington Post about KD, Kyrie and the unraveling of their Nets team. Highly recommended.
