Less pressure in Chicago, him signing with Clips or Heat he again becomes the scapegoat. Since the Bulls are in free fall he won't get the heat (pun sorta intended) he would in other situations and after the Lakers experience.... that might be more appealing. Washington also I think would be appealing in that sense too.

From a cynical/calculating perspective, Chicago seems like the obvious choice. If he comes to the Bulls and we do well, he's the hero who pulled us out of the dumpster. If we do poorly, well, we were already in the dumpster. Dude's not superman.

That works in reverse for those other teams, and they all have somewhat successful formulas for winning right now.

The Bulls (and maybe the Wiz) are the only places where I think it's obvious he'd come in and just immediately be playing 30+ mins, be the best PG on the team, and a situation where he's most likely to get credit for any improvement.

Oddly conflicts with all the news that the Bulls actively want Westbrook. Well at the very least, if the Bulls want him it doesn't look like there will be much competition. Shams also said the Clippers are looking for someone who can hit 3s and play defense...basically said he doesn't want Russell.

I think there's probably a split between what some players/coaches think. Probably a lot like DeMar.

Players tend to love DeMar and vote for him. Coaches seem to respect his game. A lot of nebulous "NBA" types thought they'll just look at the fact he doesn't shoot 3s and say "nope".

The game is more complex than that, and I think while there's truth to guys like DeMar and West being deficient because they don't shoot, a team that needs what they bring (scoring, passing, etc) is better off making an imperfect but skilled player work.

Any interest in Leandro Bolmaro? Looks like he's been waived by the Jazz. Real young still, former FRP.

As a two-way contract to take a flyer on and see if there's anything there? Sure.

But he's been awful in the NBA, summer league, and below average in the G League so he was probably just poorly scouted and overdrafted. Also, it appears he can't shoot.

This is a guy we should definitely take a chance on with a two-way. Young, tall, lengthy, lob threat, fairly athletic for his size, and could potentially fill a need one day as a rim protector and rebounder. He's played well in the past, but the concern is why does he keep getting waived?

He could be a Hassan Whiteside-esque diamond in the rough find, but I'm sure every team that's waived him thought the same thing when they signed him.

K.C. Johnson seems to think Dragic could be the one to be waived if we add a buyout guy. Seems like the obvious choice would be Marko or Bradley, but what do I know?

If the Bulls don’t add Westbrook, John Wall and Patrick Beverley are names to keep in mind. The Bulls will need to waive a player to create a roster spot, and their current focus calls into question the future of Goran Dragić.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported on February 13 that the Bulls had received and subsequently declined trade offers for backup center Andre Drummond, and now another top league insider says the Golden State Warriors were also interested in doing business with Chicago.

On the February 15 episode of his podcast The Lowe Post, NBA insider Zach Lowe spoke with Sports Illustrated’s Chris Herring about Chicago choosing to cling to its players as opposed to using some as trade chips.

“You had guys that would have had value elsewhere, whether it was (Zach) LaVine — they’d been having serious conversations about him — whether it was Caruso. … You had any number of guys that other teams would have been interested in,” Herring said about the Bulls.

“I know for sure that the Warriors really wanted Alex Caruso,” Lowe said, adding: “I don’t think there was anything close to a deal there.”

“I understand that he’s a good player and that he has value, but what are you gonna do with him?” Herring wondered about Caruso.

I would say Dragic is the logical candidate to get released. Yeah they give up an actual PG but he's only playing 10 minutes and it would be a show of respect to let him find a playoff team who would use him those same 10 minutes. With the way things are headed, there's no reason not to give Terry those 10 minutes so he can get the feel of being an NBA player.

The Clippers could be clearing a roster spot for a waiver PG. If for no other reason than he's tall. Sign him to one or even two 10 day contracts and see if he can get up from a folding chair to play 4 minutes. If he at least runs the floor you invite him to camp in the summer.

If the clippers are waiving a guy that probably means they are the ones getting Russ.

On Dragic it would be a shame if he got waived, he started off so well then kind of fell off. Would rather keep him but also get the reasoning since the new PG they will sign will replace Dragic and Toney Bradley as a 3rd string center is still kind of needed for insurance just in case a big gets hurt.

Yep I really liked Dragic and he was a huge positive impact guy early on. He just can't play euroleague summer and then immediately after an NBA regular season, he's basically done physically for the season. He was the one guy who could competently run a P&R.

I know some are legit hurt, but we seem to be sitting a LOT of guys. Last game, we had Carlik Jones, Malcolm Hill, and Dalen Terry on the court playing extended minutes (albeit the latter kinda stole the show). But that's 3 of the Windy City Bulls starting lineup right there lol.

I wonder if the stealth tank is on.

Yeah, on the recent Bulls Talk podcast, KC basically said that the Bulls had a ton of guards and were thinner w/bigs, so it would make more sense to waive Dragic, especially b/c an incoming veteran point guard would be duplicative w/Dragic.

I don’t really buy it. Dragic is the Bulls’ only “real” PG, so it seems fine to me to waive Bradley (who never, ever plays) and keep Dragic as a backup PG in addition to Westbrook or Beverley.

We’re gonna use emotion and admiration over reason, yo! That’s what we’re gonna do with him.

I think the main reason Russ would come to Chicago is that he think he can be the starting point guard ... next season. To me that is what this is all about and that is why he has narrowed his list (according to some) to Washington and Chicago. Russ wants to play. He wants to start. And he thinks he's still an all-star.

I don't know how a lineup with Russ-Derozan-Zach-Vuc makes a lick of sense, but that is where Donovan and AK seem to want to go. Two of your top 3 perimeter players can't shoot 3s. It won't work.
