he Cardinals and general manager Walt Jocketty have "parted ways," according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation.

The Cardinals have scheduled a 4 p.m. news conference to discuss Jocketty

Well we had a poisonous situation brewing in our front office. Long story short, the owner Bill DeWitt, brushed Jocketty's people aside and installed a new czar to oversee the farm system and draft. Half of the front office people weren't speaking to the other half. Something had to give. Whether kicking out Jocketty was the right call remains to be seen--the Cardinals sure had a lot of success while he was in St. Louis.

Here is a pretty good explanation of the Cardinals' decision to dismiss Jocketty. (I'm not saying I necessarily agree with the decision.) Written by a local sportswriter who covers the team daily, not a national reporter who covers the team sporadically.

I think a team like the Orioles would be smart to go after him.

They just hired Andy McPhail. They don't need another voice.
