The reports of Westbrook signing have exposed a conflict of interest and differing ideologies between front office, coaching staff and players. Front office wants a Good Samaritan Spurs player who may be a scrub but has high character. Coaching staff wants a point guard in the name of basketball tradition. A player wants a superstar because he played with him before and felt deserving to give him another chance. Who wins out?
What they need is a fourth division, one person who oversees all the moves the front office, coaching staff and players suggests. He not only has experience in all three fields, but is also somebody who can usurp a faction's decision if they feel it could sabotage their initial goals. If the three factions were in agreement to a championship, this person will ensure the moves they make are correct. The only condition is that he makes suggestions, not become a right hand for the team owner (in this case Steve Ballmer). The only exception to this is if he clearly sees a divide between the three factions and feels compelled to stepped in. This position will be known as General Advisor.
With how Clippers are taking this season, do you feel it's time they create a new position? Who would be perfect for General Advisor role?

isn't that supposed to Jerry West? What happened to him, I haven't heard his name or saw him on TV since last year I think.

West is a Special Consultant, but he's more front office connected. There needs to be a person who can hold the front office, coaching staff and players accountable, and it would only work with a new face.

They should get the fans involved by creating a Twitter poll for every important decision.

Re: Hiring A General Advisor
Ballmer decides the organization's philosophy. Ballmer is the only one with a real stake in this. Ballmer is and was the last word.
His $2 billion Intuit Pleasure Dome opens in Fall 2024. Kawhi and PG can opt out that summer before it does. Ballmer made his choice and went all-in with THEM. Now.
If this fails, he can always open Basketball Xanadu with Mann, Bones, Zu, and whatever he can get in next year's trading deadline fire sale. Because you KNOW Kawhi is not going to tip his hand before Summer 2024 and Ballmer will be faced with dealing him first or risk ending up empty-handed.
It does make more sense to roll the dice now rather than next year.

Re: Hiring A General Advisor
I feel like statements on Twitter, etc. that Paul George or whoever is 'dictating' front office decisions is pretty overboard. Sure the front office initially didn't want to sign Russ, but I imagine there were significant discussions that (for better or for worse) led to them coming around on it.
This is simply getting input from your significant players and/or staff and having that input inform your decisions. That's a far cry from some player dictating moves, Paul George doesn't have that level of power anyway.
As far as a special advisor goes, I don't think an additional upper level layer is required at all. It reminds me of the gambler dude in Dallas and that seemed like a mess with conflicting agendas, unclear hierarchies and whatnot. Hopefully Jerry is still actively involved though.

How many idiots does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Screwing in a light bulb = telling Paul George he cannot save his friend from embarrassment or his bull career by having him on this team.
Yes, Paul, he is “going out like that”.

By most accounts, Westbrook had other options. PG wanted him for his own reasons, presumably because he didn't want Mann as his starting point guard. [Because Mann is not a point guard and that means George has to do it.]
