How come Cavs waived Kevin Love and he then starts for Miami?

Cleveland have a top 3 defense. Which is why Love wasn't playing

In the patches where Allen/Mobley sits, Osman/Wade play more PF. and Don't really need shooters, Cleveland were tightening their rotation, Love got Squeezed out,

Miami need shooters and anyone healthy who's taller then 6'8" Love mostly fits that. They have mostly played Martin who's massively under-sized for that role

K. Love isn't a starter anymore. The Heat promised him he could start so he'd sign there, but now that he's there, I expect a token number of games where he starts before they say we tried, and move him to the bench.

Don't get too hung up on Love starting in Miami. Love is super rusty, not having played in a month. Miami needs veteran size. They are just seeing what Love can provide after his efficiency declined in Cleveland.

In two games for Miami Love has played a total of 48 minutes, shooting 4-15 from the field, 3-13 from 3. Low risk experiment for a team disappointing on the court.

The Heat need a shooting big next to Bam and Butler. The Cavs would rather play Dean Wade as part of a three man rotation with Allen and Mobley.

This would be my guess but I haven’t actually seen anything saying he was promised.

JB is dumb and made his mind up that Love wasn't playing anymore. The front office knowing Love has a tendency to throw tantrums, granted him his buyout, to avoid the distraction. Cavs are trying to make the playoffs for the first time without LBJ in 25 years, they don't have time to babysit and coddle a nearly 35 yo dude with salt and pepper hair.

JB has an awful MO of letting an entire league know that a guy has no value. If I was JBs boss, i would tell him to cut the crap. He did it with Drummond, JR, KPJ, and to a lesser extent TT... Now add Love, JB just kills any value an asset might have before the front office is able to flip the piece for any sort of return.

Love is a turd for asking for a buyout after the trade deadline too though. Also, not giving back the full amount he planned to sign with Miami for like every other player does was a butt cheeks maneuver.

I don't think there are non-compete clauses in these buyouts. I could be wrong. ::shrugs::

They knew he could go anywhere he wanted after the buyout. Kevin Love mostly did everything they asked for 4 mostly crappy years. Let him go retire in Miami if that's what he wants. Who cares, the Heat are not contenders.

If Kevin Love is starting for your team that speaks more to how bad your depth is on that team than how good of a player Kevin Love is.
