This team can compete for a title with THIS simple offseason move

Sorry for barging in on you guys but I was talking to a friend recently who’s a Nets fan and as he was telling me how much he likes the new additions to the team, it suddenly dawned on me just how comically close this roster is to compete for a championship. First of all, this is one of the deepest teams in the league, maybe the deepest.

And because you’ve got all these picks, you don’t need to send away a lot of players in any potential trade package this offseason. Bridges is looking amazing, Spencer too. You basically have four guys in the starting 5 who can go get you 20+ pts on any given night, and 2-3 guys off the bench who can do the same.

You can keep almost everyone here and use the picks to bring in ONE disgruntled all-star caliber player this offseason, preferably a frontcourt player, a big who can space the floor, defend and create his own shot.

Ideally, it would be someone like Anthony Davis where you just throw so many picks at the Lakers, they wouldn’t be able to refuse. This roster as constructed, doesn’t need a KD or a Kyrie type. But more of an AD type. Can’t recall who likened this roster to the pre-Rasheed Wallace Pistons, but it was a great comparison. AD can be this team’s Sheed.

If you can’t get him, someone like Siakam would make a lot of sense too. Heck, with so many picks to trade, would it even be that hard to land either AD or Siakam plus someone like Myles Turner?

Alright, couch GM moment over, but with an AD/Siakam on this roster, assuming everyone plays the right way, the Nets would give any contender a run for their money.

AD is injury riddled, Siakam can score but you have to learn to win while scoring. Nets have to be diligent in who they trade for moving forward and who they sign. Marks isn’t gonna rush anything nor should he.

AD being injury riddled is a bit of an overstatement. He’a had issues, but then again so have KD, Embiid, Kawhi.. besides, a player of his caliber struggling with injuries only means that he can be had for far fewer picks than it would take if he never got hurt in the first place.

There aren’t that many options out there as far as all-star caliber “bigs” who can create off the dribble, shoot and defend at an elite level.

I can co-sign this line of thinking.

We have affordable, elite two-way role players under club control for multiple years. Most rosters need 2 stars to contend, but if we can keep Mikal, Dorian and Nic, we only need 1 stud. My preference is not a big, though. We're geared to switch all screens and wreak havoc through speed and pressure. A traditional big would stymie that. You could argue that DFS is a natural small ball 4, and
even plays better at the 5 than at the 3.

For my money, an heliocentric lead guard would be my target this offseason. Someone who can get their own shot at any time, but is also capable of being an offball shooter and an playmaking facilitator. Tall order, eh? There are only a handful of guys in the league who fit that bill, and we just might have the resources to deal for one of them.

After watching this hawks game im in the same line of thinking. SGA would be perfect or even lamelo if that one is even possible. And we still have the Ben wildcard if he can get his athleticism back, this team can make some major noise.
