We currently have 109 million on the books next year if we let Grant walk out the door, and lose every player we have not under contract. I guess we would have about $30 million all together with the counted roster spots that the NBA makes you have when having say 7 or 8 players under contract.

They don't let a team sign some guy then have like 8 players on the roster or something, the NBA ensures that you have at least a minimum contract to offer for at least 12 or 13 roster spots.

At that point we would have the following players under contract:

Lillard $45.64 million
Simons $24.10 million
Nurkic $16.87 million
Sharpe $6.31 million
Little $6.25 million
Nicholson $2.84 million
Johnson $2.80 million
Watford $1.84 million
Beldsoe $1.3 million
Walker $1.72 million
Louzada $0.26 million

Total: $109,963,168

Some of these are probably waived and stretched guys but they count against the cap though.

The cap may be going up substantially in the new cba. Regardless of where we stand I'd rather have a substantial sum of money for good players not dead weight contracts. Jerami at 30-40 mil a season seems like it'd be pretty darn hard to trade if Nurk at 17 is hard to deal. If we give jerami that kind of money the final 4th year (no 5th year please) had better be unguaranteed

I'd take him if we had 5 more wins right now. Being sub .500 at the break screams that we need to tank. I want grant out of a lot of Games for if we don't drop off much without him that proves my theory he isn't worth the money he seeks

According to the site I looked at yes, he is still on the books until the 2023/2024 season ends.

I wonder how many times we've made trades to get under the tax because of Cronin/Olsheys favorite move, the old waive and stretch?

That extra 3 million can definifely hinder cap flexibility but it's hard to measure how many times we've been forced to make successive moves because past decisions short of doing an extensive amount of research. I'm guessing it's happened a couple times already though given that it feels like we've been around a million over or under quite a few times

It's been listed as 2023/24 for quite some time now so I'd guess that's accurate.

"Adrian Wojnarowski: Center Nerlens Noel and the Detroit Pistons have completed a contract buyout, his agent @George Langberg tells ESPN. Noel can join a team and become eligible for a playoff roster.

Seems to me if what Dame said is true about not tanking, we should try to bring him in for the rest of the season.

Blazers reportedly wanted him at the deadline. He’s a good candidate for the Blazers to look to pick up. It’ll depend what other teams might be out there tho looking to sign him. If he’s looking for a sure thing playoff team and a team like that wants him, Portland may just get passed up.

Never been a big fan of Nerlens, but we could do worse. Not picking someone up seems nuts with Eubanks as our only Center. Watford too I guess, but still waaay too small to compete with the big dogs. If Noel can be inked while staying under the tax, and it gives Eubanks some much needed help in the paint, I'm all for it.

I feel like Portland can easily be seen as a great opportunity for Nerlens, considering Nurkic is still broken I guess with less than a couple dozen games left to play. His other competition would be those two other scrubs that I'm honestly getting tired of having to see. What's up with those two anyway? We had to cut GB3, yet we still carry Badji and Butler... why?

Losing out on that Pelicans lotto pick still haunts me, seeing Mark Williams go for 18pts/20rebs a game ago. Tears. O'well... I just hope Cronin and Chauncey have a plan to address the concerns with depth at the Center and PF spots this summer. What sucks is that I don't see much as far as big men coming out of the draft. Is hoping for a lean version of Nukic the best we can hope for? Man, I hope not.

GBIII had a real contract. The other 2 are two-way contracts. Can't waive one of them to add a player with a real contract.

Normally a buyout player goes to a playoff contender.

It'll be interesting to see if he wants to come here but its not a problem finding a player to cut for
Winslow has been out for some time and cutting him with just 22 games left when he's an
expiring contract might make some sense.

Naw, I'd hang onto Winslow for the playoffs. His experience, leadership, and ball handling will be needed. I'd cut Knox if we need to cut someone. He doesn't seem to be much of a player.

I totally agree. Winslow is such an underappreciated player. I imagine he will play PG on the second unit as long as Simons is out.

Knox's body language is so bad. He seems like the only guy on the bench who doesn't celebrate other Blazers accomplishments. Reddish is so much more talented in every way and worth developing.

Really hoping we sign Noel. Having a 5 who can not only switch but was recently in the top 10 in both steals and blocks rates would give this team a whole new dimension defensively.

That's a whole lot of hope for a guy that couldn't crack the pistons' rotation.

They are prioritizing developing Duren and Stewart (and now Wiseman) and are actively trying to lose.

In 2020-21 Noel led the NBA in defensive box score plus minus. His career defensive rating is 101. Lower is better. For referance Giannis's career numbers are 104, Brook Lopez 108, Thybulle 106, OG 109 so there is no question Noels has been a highly impactful defender. To me taking a risk on him contributing positively are minimal. If he doesn't work out we really haven't lost anything

I would sign Noel if for no other reason to get a look at how he fits and maybe bring him in next season if it goes well. Would be nice to have another big on the roster. We could even maybe play Eubanks a couple of minutes a game as a pf so we aren't undersized all of the time.

I like Noel. In fact I like a cheap C rotation of Eubanks and Noel w/ Nurkic shipped somewhere for ???.

Would love to see what we could get for Simons, Nurkic and picks this offseason.

Perhaps but nobody knows when Winslow is going to return and he's had a long history of missing lots of
games but releasing Knox would also be okay since he has a club option for next season. Winslow would
be cleaner to release since he'll be an UFA.

Does it really matter if Portland's playoff run is a loss in the play in round?

Knox barely gets any minutes and is a garbage time player only. Winslow will play if he's healthy. There are a few reasons to hang onto Winslow, but absolutely no reason to hang onto Knox.
