Re: JI has been sidelined again and I hope he is healthy for the Play In Push
In 11 games, he has per36 numerous that are ok. And his 3-pt percentage is stellar. But his 2-pt percentage is poor and his FT% is terrible.
His bpg are down and spg up. His TO levels are tiny. (as in he's not dribbling the ball to make a TO level of tiny).
Personally I am having a difficult time assessing Isaac's season. By the eye test he is something like an 8th-10th man off of the bench. But his PER levels are starting quality. And I can't get past his FT shooting.

people can always show high PER36 levels. but does anyone honestly think JI can play 36 minutes? i dont. and its easier to show production in 10 mpg than for 30mpg+

Isaac's per 100 possession numbers show he is at his typical offensive and defensive performance.

but thats cherry picking. you can give more effort in 10 mpg than you can for 30 mpg. then extrapolate that 10 mpg to 100 possessions.

My only point is that Isaac is neither substantially worse nor substantially better than he was.

Yeah kind of where I'm at, he was looking sharp as well, and with how carefully his recovery was handled there should be no "oh normal tweak post injury". Hopefully its minor but guess this reset him to like 5 mins a game when he is back!
I still believe in Magic! Welcome to the Franz & Paolo era

only thing that matters is how much a given player fits around franz and paolo.
Isaac doesnt fit unless he can randomly becomes a 65+ game per season player who is a high volume above average shooter--highly unlikely.
hoping we can fleece a desperate team for a flyer asset next year.

Not having him would be even better...
I mean what's the point? He play sub 30 games a year, needs ages to recover, eats salary cap, has min restriction on min he can be used, is not good offensive player... Might as well pick some Robert Covington for $4-5M a year, at least he suits up to sit on bench every game, and i'm not 100% sure there is any significant quality differential left.
Because when he does play, he's a difference maker. Proves it all the time.
For six years people on this board have been saying "when he does play". As if this is all going to magically change at some point.
He is only playing 11.3 minutes per game and he doesn't play back-to-backs, and how long did he last before getting hurt again? 11 games. After missing 2 and a half years with an ACL tear and "minor hamstring surgery".
His $17.4 million/year salary is an absolute drag on the salary cap, and what's the point of paying him 10 or 8? It's meaningless. So what if he shows flashes in the 10 minutes he plays every other game if he's not capable of playing more than that.

Thank you !!! Dude is a waste of cap space, **** the feel good story. It’s been years and he can’t even last on minute restriction. He’s broken goods and we need to move on.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

That's why I said being able to sign him for less is a positive take away.

Big blow. But it seems like a precautionary move. Nothing to be alarmed.

Probably a better idea to just grab another JI type in the draft. Cheaper, more durable, probably more upside. Look at guys like McDaniels and Vanderbuilt.

When he was playing?

This is his April 8th 2020- February 23rd, 2023- game log.
It's laughable that somebody can support this b****t.
What are "haters" ? People who can't stand fact that their favorite team is burning money on this garbage, in salary restricted league ?
Jonathan Isaac is broken. Been that way even before his ACL tear.
Franz Wagner, drafted 4 years after him , in one and half season played more min than Isaac in 6 years.
He can't get f*** off Magic soon enough.

Hahaha again like i said before, who could we have spent those money for? Overpaying role players? Might rather overpay someone like JI who has more upside. Because the risk reward is higher. And we’re not even trying to compete this year. Lol
He didnt make 40 million in 3 years doing nothing either, as someone bright previously claimed.

Dead salary who does nothing for your team and eats salary cap.
Up until 2022-23 even rolled, Isaac made $39 724 405 from Magic to suit up for 130 games over 5 years.
For 2022-23 he will end up making $16 M of guaranteed money.
So for services of player who was aveliable sub 30% of time, Magic ended up paying $55,7M over 6 years.
There is about 400 nba players who are more valuable than player who doesn't play. And in general there is probably 150 players simply better than him, even when he does play.
His agent is best agent in basketball. he makes money over dead donkey by putting donkey on court, on life support for several games every several years to keep fools hopes high and live. Pure genius.
Jonathan and his agent in 2024. " He is 100% healthy, he just needs to dust off rust".

Many players coming back from extended injuries have groin or hamstring pulls.

It seems like the risk has far outweighed the reward, and we have a 6-year sample size.

Re: JI has been sidelined again and I hope he is healthy for the Play In Push
JI has been very impactful the last few games when he puts his foot on the floor. It's simply amazing how good he is being with such a limited sample size of minutes. To me this is an excellent lesson on work ethic for the rest of the roster.
Also true at the same time. I do not feel good about him being out two games straight. This isn't a tank move in my humble opinion. But could be one of yet another MILLION precautions that many here including myself might view unnecessary.
Pepe mentioned him being overpaid. Can't agree more. I wouldn't be surprised if we let him simply expire and he walks off into the sunset. His potential off the bench seems impressive for sure. Maybe even deserving of the salary should his feet touch ground in regulation for 20MPG.
It's OK in this case to see both sides. I was hoping for more progress. I can't see the 4D chess or lack thereof in limiting his playing time unless the news is bad. He isn't Paolo or Franz where even a modest injury and I can understand sitting him out because we need him for the next 10 years to compete vs what could be seen as an overrated playin.

To add: a player with a PER of ~16 is about the 150th best player.
Another way of looking at this. WIth 30 NBA teams and 5 starters each, the 150th best player is at the 5th man / 6th man boundary.
Right now, Isaac is ~8th man on the Magic, placing him somewhere like the 250th best player.
His agent is best agent in basketball.
I am going with John Wall. His contract destroyed the Wizards, even before he became a shell of himself. Now, he makes nearly 50M to be about "Jonathan Isaac" good.
