I'd like to resign Maxey as long as his ask is reasonable

I feel like hes worth less than a Poole or Hero. Though none of these guys are defenders Poole and Hero have legit SG size with better Shot creating ability and playmaking.

Maxey right now is 6'2 slashing SG with a pull up jumper. He hasnt stamped any ability other than that just yet.

Alsi, these writers fuel a lot, if not most, discussion on this very forum.

You missed both points. First those players are the best athletes and competitors in the world in a sport with a long tradition that we all grew up with. Yeah we all go overboard with it (cuz it’s a hobby) but it makes perfect sense that they’d be the object of our attention and discussion. Woj and Shams not only don’t have anything to do with the game they don’t even write about it; in fact they don’t even publish more info or like gossip from behind the scenes or anything, they just say ‘this player is being traded.’

That’s second point: those writers don’t contribute a lick of useful info to our discussions—they literally just tell us public news minutes (sometimes seconds) before the entire world would know anyway. They’re famous because they’re ‘first’ by that minute or two and nothing more.
I don't know if I was replying to you. A couple counterpoints

1. My point about basketball being a game holds true. Some people feel that sports player/entertainers don't improve society, they are overpaid for what they do and a lot of times they act like they're more important than what they are (LeBron specifically gets a lot of hate). I disagree with these points, but I think that similar argument/defense can be made to writers.

2. You know everyone wants that hot goss. I see a lot of Woj/Shams (and others which others mentioned) quoted and linked in discussions on this forum including more than just breaking news. If they weren't bringing anything to the table, they wouldn't be making that money.

And I don't follow any of these guys or watch them on TV, I only see their news from here and reddit, and they are posted constantly.

Yeah.

Danny Green or Pat Beverly might be more realistic wings since they've got connections to Morey and Doc.

I'd be very happy if they brought in one of those 2, signed Nerlens, and cut Trez.

I think Trez has a player option for next year so he's probably not getting cut. Possibly BBall i guess. I would take 1 or 2 of any of those guys. Guessing the Sixers won't get anybody or whoever the most washed up C is.

He does, but it's a minimum deal, and they've got no excuse not to be willing to eat that money.

I hope they don't waste time and money bringing in a big unless they plan on cutting Harrell, which is hard to imagine.

To me, the biggest need is another wing who can play defense and at least be respectable from 3. You can't have too many of them.

That's the goal!

An overlooked part of dealing Thybulle is that it's really tough to put two offensively inept players on the floor.

I think that's at least part of why Trez was playing over Reed. You just couldn't have a functional offense with BBall and Thy-ball on the floor together, and the gap between Thybulle and House was greater than the gap between Trez and Reed.

It also opens up the door to Nerlens, who would also be tough to put on the floor with Thybulle.

Even though he's more bark than bite at this point, and it's the position I feel most comfortable depth-wise going into the playoffs, I actually think Pat Bev would be a pretty good addition to this team if he's willing to take a situational role.

Melton is a really good defender, but I think you need another option off the bench when he's getting cooked by those PnR jump shooters, or just if he gets in foul trouble.

It would have to be with the understanding that he's not always going to play though, because I think Shake would be the better option in a lot of scenarios.

“We felt like the most important thing was getting a two-way player who could give us defense,” Morey explained. “It was actually the same priority we had before the season. You can put it on me. Maybe not every player we brought in is giving us exactly what we owe for. So, we tried to address it at the deadline.”

Hmm, Morey might no longer be on Danuel House’s Christmas card list…

I think probably something between Sexton and Hero would be fair. Hero signed for 4/120. Sexton signed for 4/71. You split the difference and you end up with 4/96

Assuming we resign Harden we are going to be operating as an over-the-cap team so signing Maxey makes the most sense. We all know his limitations right now but he can improve and he fits like a glove next to Harden.

What is really needed is an off the ball PG who can run the second offense when Harden is off the court. Maxey isn't that guy. I have been saying all offseason and all year that guy is not on the roster. Not trading for someone even if we had to give up a first for someone like Russell was a massive mistake. We have no one who can the run 2nd unit. We have no playmakers and shot creators off the bench because of that we suffer from turnovers and they are not getting their looks for catch-and-shoot. It is what it is but we should have gone hard for someone who had playmaking ability. Melton and Milton are not capable of being those guys
