Wolves Continue To Believe In Karl-Anthony Towns, Have No Plans To Trade Him

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Feb 28, 2023 3:53 pm

The Minnesota Timberwolves made a bold move in trading for Rudy Gobert and the follow-up to it if it continues to be a disappointment could be a trade of Karl-Anthony Towns to try to repair the situation. Towns has been out since November with a calf injury and the franchise has tiled even more heavily toward Anthony Edwards in his absence.

"It has felt like the inevitable end game where at the very least it is something that is talked about between teams," said Zach Lowe on his podcast of potential chatter around the Wolves trading Towns.

"Teams are already talking about it," Jon Krawczynski replied. "There's no doubt that other teams are eyeing this situation and looking to see if KAT will become available.

"I can tell you from everyone that I've talked to within the organization, they very much believe in KAT. They believe that once he comes back and they have some time to build around ANT and Gobert and KAT, they very much believe that can still work. Chris Finch believes it. Tim Connelly believes it. They don't have any plans to trade him.

"But if the bottom falls out of this thing and they go forward that way, there are going to be teams knocking on the door. I do think that overall, especially locally here, there's a lack of appreciation among fans for what Karl-Anthony Towns is as a player."

Even if the Wolves could get a massive haul in return for Towns, it still will not undo the Gobert trade. You know how the saying goes, “you made your bed…”
“And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission.” -V

All KAT knows how to do is lose or get injured over 8 years. His scoring helps sells tickets, but they need to start fresh this offseason-- whatever any postseason outcome.

translation : we are building KAT value up because we can't wait to move on from him since we realized he and Gobert can't coexist and trading the frenchman is near impossible

What's your logic? My gut says the Wolves would get a huge haul in dealing him and recent history suggests that is correct.

Lack of leadership, lack of defense, injury prone, hasn’t won a thing, loves to complain but not compete, huge contract, wants to be a star but won’t play like one, what else…

Picking Ant at #1? Hiring Chris Finch?

Or signing Kyle Anderson for under the MLE, to leave enough money to give a Hinkie Special to Josh Minott?

For anyone that reads this thread that isn’t here to pop off with one-liners about a team they don’t follow, I’ll give a little local info.

Believe this report. Jon Krawcinski is probably the most well-informed local reporter in Minnesota, and it’s why he’s working for the Athletic, getting interviewed by Zach Lowe. People outside of Minnesota have been creating storylines about Towns wanting out of Minnesota for about five years now, but we never hear anything locally about these rumors. In fact, Towns has been extremely loyal to the organization, never going to the press even during some really bad teams and even when Jimmy Butler ripped him.

Remember, Minnesota is no free agent destination. They can’t replace Towns with a similar All-NBA talent who wants to go there, or won’t demand a trade at his first chance to get out. In fact, part of the reason for the Gobert trade was because when he was presented the opportunity, Rudy was excited to see what a Gobert-Towns pairing would look like. MIN also has Towns and Gobert locked up for multiple years (for good or bad), and some team control and players that want to be there are critical for MIN, competing against teams with stars.

Finally, the future of the team is Anthony Edwards, and the team’s success will hinge on his development as a franchise player. The Wolves believed that KAT and Kevin Love never developed to all they could be, because the organization couldn’t put a legitimate team around them, so they were always playing tank-ball for the second half of many seasons. We don’t know how the KAT-Rudy experiment will go, the two have only played a faction of the season together. Tim Connelly is invested, and will want a long, long look at them together before he considers trading either one.

KAT needs to come to Toronto.

A deal centred around KAT and OG would be beneficial for both teams.

Let Anthony Edwards run wild and let Gobert and OG lock other teams up defensively.

The Raps get a centre that fits their style of shooting a ton of threes and being dynamic and switchable.

It would be classic Wolves to trade ANT to build around KAT-Gobert.

Switchable? On D? You had me at first but switchable KAT is not. KAT to Toronto for OG might not be a bad depending on the rest of the deal. What does Masai and Connelly want and how do they value each player?
Being a Blazer fan isn't exactly healthy.

After the way Minnesota played last night against the Clippers, KAT definitely needs to be traded and build around Ant.
