Jalen Hood-Schifino

Post#1 » by BoyzNTheHood » Sun Jan 8, 2023 10:41 pm

I'm surprised there's no thread on him yet.

6'6" 215 lbs

11.6/4.4/4.7

41.7% from the field, but 43.2% from 3

Good day to start a thread after his 30 piece.

I like his game and think he’s under the radar. He seems to have a game real close to the Arkansas kid. Similar size and build too.

Agreed. I saw a highlight video of the 30 bomb and it jogged my memory

I see him in a similar light to a Malcolm Brogdon

Yep. Me too.

I see big value if he can become a high volume 3pt shooter. He’s shooting over 40% on 4 attempts per game now.

I hope he stays an extra year or two in college, work on team defense and intangibles.

But kid can get hot and score. Sadly, that is no longer enough to guarantee a shot in the NBA FT.

There's definitely some stuff to like, just wish he could back up some of those mid-range shots a few feet.

I think he probably makes a run up the board late, especially if IU make a good run in the tourney.

Wouldn't shock me if he went above Jett, Cason or Grady.

Indiana has some of the worst spacing in college basketball, probably why he is settling so much for midrange jumpers.

Would be a decent Raptors pick if we had a second one in the first round. As a potential lottery pick, its hard to look at the lack of upside and pull the trigger

He's gonna need to up those shooting numbers and I can see the Brogdan comparison (although Brogdon as a rook was great defensively and was a better passer and shooter) but he has the benefit of being 19 vs 24 coming into the NBA. Might end up being a sleeper steal i he develops right

I had him ranked 14 at the end of January, moving him up to top 7.

Maybe Im missing something but looks like a 6th man. Doesn't really put any pressure on the rim, slight of frame, and more of a combo guard than a guy you'd want running your offense.

Not everyone will, that's one of the great things about the draft.

I've been a huge fan of his all season and I've watched a ton of IU games. They literally suck without him. My comp for him is Keldon Johnson.

Booker was the 13th pick (I had him 8 that year) and was a much much much better prospect than JHS. To me JHS starts to get interesting somewhere after 20 probably. He's going to struggle to develop in the NBA immediately if he can't shoot right away.

I’ll say right now I’ve barely watched JHS outside of clips this season, but his stat profile is so bad it suggests he’s at long odds of even being a 4 year+ nba career guy

We’ll see how high he ends up on draft night , he seems to have a big push from guys like Givony at the moment , but I doubt I would rate him as a 1st rounder

Really? What about his profile is so bad?

He is 6-6 point guard shooting over 35% from three, 77% from FT and averaging 4 assists per game. His overall fg% isn't great but if you watch IU play the spacing sucks, they play 2 real bigs all the time and that forces JHS to take a lot of runners and midrange shots. That and the only other guy that really creates his own shot on perimeter has been hurt for last 15 games or so. Meaning he has to take a ton of tough shots against shot clock.

I don't know about top 10, but I think he is a top 20 guy.

The main thing is low 3pt volume. You really want his archetype shooting a lot more 3s. He also doesn't get to the rack nearly enough with a FTR < 0.2. That's really bad for someone who is supposedly a creator at the next level. If you don't shoot 3s at high volume and you don't get to the rack at high volume, that spells creation death at the next level. On top of that his STL% is super low for a wing.

Should I go on?

His numbers outside of steals are pretty much right in line with Cason Wallace. Who plays a much better system for pace and spacing.

IU offense still very much resolves around TJD who is a top 5 player in college basketball.
