Ken Rosenthal: Cubs to pick up options on Ward and Trachsel

OMG

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7315170
FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal expects the Cubs to exercise their options on Steve Trachsel and Daryle Ward for 2008.
Ward, owed $1.2 million next year, figured to have his picked up. However, it's a surprise that they'd want anything more to do with Trachsel, who was 1-3 with an 8.15 ERA after being picked up from the Orioles. They may figure he'd have some trade value at $4.75 million for 2008, but we're guessing they're wrong.

Jim, you are an idiot

Picking up Ward's option was an obvious

Trachsel=Wade Miller, AAA emergency vet starter.

Still very stupid move. I think Jim is trying to get fired. I wonder what Mrs. Trachsel had to do to get jimbo to pick that option up.

It seems for every good move Hendry makes, a questionable or awful one follows.

I give a big sigh to Trachsel. But this does remind us all we have probably the best bat off the bench in baseball for another year at a good price.

With Trachsel it is not only the wasted money but the fear that this scrub may actually pitch for us...he is awful...even in his prime he was never better than mediocre...now he is just plain bad.

There can only be 2 explanations for this:

1) Hendry's already got something on the table for Trachsel.

2) Hendry's just trying to rationalize his midseason trade for Trachsel, to show it had some value.

Either way.....ouch. JH is not new at his job, he should know better than this. He GMs like a rookie - flashes of brilliance, and long stretches where he looks like he's in over his head.

That's what I feel, but I don't know if that will be true.
