29 points in a half, disgusting.
JV's got his extension and secured his future. It's time to unleash Sharpe and the young guys, rack up the losses, improve our pick and finish off this lost season.

I agree. It's not too late to willingly, purposefully slide down the standings while getting the kiddos some extended run. I'm not talking about a 5-year tank job. No, that's cancerous to a culture. But in a short 22-game swoon, we could improve our draft positioning immensely. This is an exceedingly deep draft at the top, there might be 3 generational talents, and at least 4 more franchise cornerstones. Sure, we may not get lottery lucky and crack the top 4. But at 11, we might luck into the next Haliburton, Herro or Spyda. I'd like to take a shot at that.
We're already sitting our $35mil franchise cornerstone Ben for health concerns, there's no reason to thrash against inevitability. That's only going to lead us to the 39- to 43-win range, which won't be enough to secure a top-6 seed. And the present constitution of this roster is absolute FOOD in a 1-game play-in scenario. We just don't have the 1v1 scoring ability to survive crunch time, high leverage situations consistently. I'm high on this core's long-term prospects, but we need to be honest with ourselves about our present.
Sure, it would be great IF we made the playoffs, to get some postseason experience by this core's own bootstraps. But as evidenced by the last few games, we don't have the shot creation ability or defensive awareness to hang onto anywhere close to our seeding.

if the team gets to the play-in but doesn't win any games I think they'll end up with at least a top 14 pick. So the pick could be pretty solid regardless.
Considering the draft pick next year is going to the Rocket, I'd look at the rest of this season as a proxy for next and see what the core roster is about (Claxton, Bridges, Cam, Simmons, etc.) to get an idea of what type of moves need to be made in the offseason.

We don't have ownership of our picks, you make no sense.
Oh I thought it was a swap with Houston. Then no it doesn’t make sense lol.
I was right though.

Exactly what I said previous in this thread. Just take the shot at a good pick, what else is there? The "experience" of a first round exit?

Eh, a lot can happen between now and then but it will be interesting to say the least. I wish we had a Jayson Tatum/Jaylen Brown type prospect in the draft where ever the Suns are supposed to pick but they don't grow on trees. Will be interesting to see who we pick and which way we go.

Atleast Houston isn't good and probably won't be for a couple years so the swaps might not convey or it won't be too much of a difference between our picks, just have to hope they don't land the top pick this year so they can't get Wemby.

Early chatter is that the 2024 draft class is expected to be awful.

What's our pic situation, guys?
I had a dream that Houston got the first pick and we instantly jumped 2nd in the lottery and was able to scoop Scoot!

Nets are 3.5 games back of getting into the lottery. It's doable but would need some help from teams around them.
If the Nets get lots help and play like .200 ball to end the season, they probably can only get as high as the 13-14th pick.

if they get into the play-in but don't win they'd be at least at the 14th pick. Depending on how some of the teams in the west close out the season they can go lower (i.e. Pelicans, Wolves, Warriors, Clippers, Suns).

Re: So, are we tanking now ?
Embrace the tank !!! Might as well just go full tank at this point, we're getting spanked every game now so it makes no point in making the playoffs(ins). Bulls are 5 1/2 games back of us so we can get the 11th spot. I say we root for the Bulls and everybody in between and get as far into the lotto as we can. We need a young star to root for.

At the rate we're going, I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with the 6th pick, tbh.
Only the Rockets, Spurs, Pistons, Hornets and Magic are worse than us.

The sixth pick is definitely an opportunity to find an all star prospect. But the Nets need to cut the dead weight and players that NO LONGER have roles or fit these new Nets. Dinwiddie, Harris, DFS, Curry and O'Neal ALL have to go. I don't want them here and we can get some assets for DFS. Nets were stupid not trading Smith for picks at the deadline.

We do this season. We won’t after next season. We could enter the lottery this season with a long losing streak.
