Re: Trade Discussion 22/23
The offense is ample, the defense is lacking. Lacking two defensive players, one being a center. At least one needs to be addressed in the summer. The other one can be tackled when THJ and Bertans vacate.
Centers available in the summer by order of priority:
Brook Lopez
Jakob Poetl
Naz Reid
If Milwaukee wants to move on from Brook Lopez, maybe Christian Wood can be signed and traded there. That solves one Dallas problem.

To save the lack of interior defense and rebounding, the only way is to start Maxi + Wood together as PF/C, and give it a try.

He would've done absolutely nothing for the key issues which are interior defense and rebounding.

That would mean they would need to figure out for both where and how to move and when to post up. You trying to make Kidd to actually do some coaching? You're a mad man!!!

1- who is to defend Jokic?
Ayton would be great addition but probably not possible.
2- who can defend Curry and GSW?
Kyrie-Luka cannot defend perimeter, no rim protector inside. No great help defender at wing positions. We need like a prime Igoudola+rim protector. Tybulle sucks at offense but maybe try it?
3- Clippers or Lakers? who defends Kawhi+PG or Lebron+AD? Zion+Ingram?
DFS is gone. Green is too small. Maxi is not enough by himself. We need DFS back, plus one.
As to your questions.
Who guards them?
1. Maxi
2. Probably Reggie but possibly Josh.
3. Maxi - Reggie, Josh - Maxi, Maxi - Reggie. Respectively
This is fun it’s like being on jeopardy. But in all honesty the question you’re trying to ask is who stops them and the answer is nobody in the entire league stops Jokic, at a certain point when you’re playing all time greats and MVPs the only defense is a good offense.
All Dallas Cubans fans here. See the delusion. Please stop it.
I am asking who defends Lebron-AD? The Cuban fan answering Bullock-Maxi. Josh-Maxi.
Bullock vs Lebron. What a great matchup it was. What a great defense it was. Green would be too strong for Lebron so Kidd did not want to overpower the old guy.
I might be best Maxi fan here but he is no superman either. He is paid bench player money for a reason. You cant expect him to defend AD and Lebron
Booker-Durant with Ayton waiting inside![]()
Jokic with Gordon-MPJ-KCP-Murray![]()
Defending Kawhi-PG13 without DFS.![]()
GSW to beat easier this time
Nico Harrison is responsible for the L games not Luka-Kidd-Carlisle.
Oz can you just be a rational intelligent person for 5 seconds please. You asked who was going to guard them not who was going to stop them. Nobody in the league is going to stop Jokic or Giannis or KD. You can call me delusional for pointing that out but at least I understand basic basketball.

The problem with that is they can’t trade the 2025 or 2027 picks until the 2023 pick they owe to the Knicks conveys. The protections on the 2023 pick prevent them from trading ‘25, or ‘27. This off season once that pick conveys that will open up the opportunity for them to trade those two 1st round picks plus the 2nd rounders. At least that’s what I read.

This would be the dream scenario:
DAL Receives: M. Turner
IND Receives: C. Wood (3/48) / R. Bullock / '24 Unprotected 1st / '30 2nd / 6.8M Cash
DAL Receives: D. Finney-Smith / P. Mills / D. Sharpe
BKN Receives: D. Bertans / J. McGee / J. Hardy / '25 2nd
Preserves Dallas' ability to offer a significant (3 firsts & 3 swaps) trade package at the conclusion of the 2024 draft [ '25 1st / '27 1st / '31 1st / Swaps in '26/'28/'30 ] to make an all-in move while plugging all of the roster's holes in the immediate term.
Resign Kyrie (5yrs 220M) [38/41/44/47/50]
Extend Josh (4yrs 70M)
Resign D. Powell / J. Holiday / T. Pinson / A. Lawson to 1yr Vet Minimums @1,989,896
Target developmental PGs & PFs for 2-way spots
Rotation:
PG: K. Irving (35) / P. Mills (5)
SG: L. Doncic (35) / T. Hardaway Jr. (20) / T. Pinson
SF: J. Green (35) / J. Holiday (15) / A. Lawson
PF: D. Finney-Smith (35) / M. Kleber (25)
C: M. Turner (30) / D. Powell (5)/ D. Sharpe

Yeah those FRPs would help getting a decent center on board. Attach those to Wood or THJ.
Priority is to re-sign Kyrie. If he bolts for thr Lakers, Kawhi has a player option that I think he would exercise since Clippers havent won anything. If the Mavs have a max contract slot and Kawhi is a free agent, you gotta go all in.

The Mavs will likely offer Kyrie a max contract for 2, 3, or 4 years (whichever he wants). He will have to turn down more money (and likely more years) to sign with the Lakers. Also the Lakers will only have cap space to sign him outright if they release all of their cap holds. They will have to let go of some of the young guys they really like.
As for Kawhi, I don’t see him leaving LA. He’s from there and did all he could to get to LA to finish his career. He has his rings and his money and gets to live in the city he grew up in. I think even if the Clippers tank he isn’t going anywhere.

With the Hawks seemingly about to implode I still think Capela is the most realistic option. I don’t see Indy trading Myles Turner.

ATL will peobably exhaust all options before blowing it up. And they've shown patience in dealing with things which explains why John Collins is still there despite being on the trade block for 3 years now. They're not doing a trade for the sake of doing a trade. So if they're trading away their center, they need a center back, which I dont think the Mavs have any piece that can help them improve too. I dont think we have anything attractive foe them to go into next season without a starting C. For them to do that the offer needs to be really good.

Maybe Dallas can trade THJ for a re-signed Dillon Brooks. Brooks can be the Marcus Smart with Kyrie and Luka. That solves one Dallas problem.

I wanted Brooks from last year... Not an efficient offensive player but he is a tough dog.

Kyrie must realize by now that he's not a #1 option, right? Stkrsst he's not on a true championship caliber team even if Lebron James should be thanking Kyrie every morning he wakes up for his game winner.Teffer10 wrote:I imagine this whole Kyrie experiment will blow up everything and mavs will make some type of S&T for someone like Davis. Said the same thing about Brunson last season. Hopefully we can get something back this time.

Yeah. Figured that Mavs need someone like Marcus Smart who's a talker and a bully. Luka and Kyrie both dont talk while playing. So does Powell and Green.

What? Luka runs his mouth all game, every game. Green just got in the face of babyface Reeves against the Lakers.

Absolutely no one is afraid of Luka. If Luka pushes someone he might actually hurt his finger. And Reeves was not scared one bit of Josh Green. He wanted all the smoke. When a white boy keeps pushing like that and isnt even backing down, you need someone to knock a couple of his front teeth out. Reeves wouldnt even look at someone like Draymond Green in the eye but he has guts to catch all the smoke against the Mavs. See what I mean?
