Brunson should get some votes but Jokic is the answer to that questi0n

Knicks are a 35-37 win team without Brunson. With Brunson, they will be close to 50 wins and he has turned Randle into a superstar.

In games Jokic plays Nuggets are on pace for 61.5 wins. They are 3-5 without him. Knicks are on a 48.4 win pace with Brunson. 2-2 without. On/off massively favours Jokic (His are absurd). Randle is having a similar season that he had 2 years ago so its not like its out of nowhere (and the Knicks were on a 47 win pace then). There is really no facet of the game where Brunson is meaningfully better than Jokic.

I get Brunson deserves some MVP consideration but there is no argument here

Brunson scored 25 points on 9/14 shooting and had 8 assists with only 1 turnover. He didn't get taken away.

I mean yea he's not MVP this year, not arguing that. But Brunson should be compensated for missing out on the All Star team. He should make an All NBA team this year especially if the Knicks get close to winning 50 games and capture 4th in the East. Who would've thought right?

Down the stretch we seen glimpses where Brunson had to cough it up when Heat went on that run

That's not how things work. Brunson's having a great season and it'll help him be an allstar next year...but to make an All-NBA team he'd have to be one of the 6 best guards in the NBA this season; which is a tough ask given the seasons that Steph, Dame, Luka, Booker, Ja, Spida, SGA, Ant, Fox, etc. are also having.

...and I wasn't the only one on here before the season saying that NYK to win 45+ games was a good bet, so us getting close to 50 wins isn't a complete shock. Especially with how well Randle has been playing.

Brunson has been excellent and should have been an all-star, but in no way is he an all-NBA player at this point for taking a team that was projected to be a play-in team into position to potentially be a #4 seed (likely a #5-6).

What the Knicks have is a young-ish core of guys that fit and play hard. No one is on a horrible contract and they have surplus draft capital going forward. However, their Big 3 is really 3 guys who could be a #3, so their is a real ceiling here. But the team is fun and the culture is changing. Combine that with roster flexibility, surplus draft capital, and New York City and the Knicks future is looking nice for the first time in the long time. Heck, 5 players in the 9 man rotation are home grown - Barrett, Robinson, Grimes, Quickley, Toppin.

And boy oh boy, if they can get into the 4-5 round and win a series, would be so great for the series and franchise.

When I saw the thread title I thought this was a new thread about the Knicks two separate 8 game winning streaks this season, the first Knicks team to have two streaks in the same season since the title winning 72-73 team 50 years ago.

Payroll ia high for a bunch of overachievers. The workhorse is Randle. Coach can't even rely on RJ Barrett to play 30 minutes per game. Between Randle, Brunson, and role players have worked out nicely for Coach.

I know it's also not how it works (though I believe it should) but Curry has played in 38 games. If he plays in the remaining 18 games (unlikely) that would put him at 56 games played. Which is about 2/3rd of the year. If Brunson plays in the remaining games he'd be at 78 games played. That has to mean something and I personally don't think guys that play under 60 games should be on these teams, Id even be comfortable with 65. Brunsons scored 300+ more points, 130+ more assists. Similar reasons should stick with Booker too honestly.

If you do take games played into account, and he continues a similar trend and stays healthy, then he's certainly got a shot. I think Doncic, Mitchell, Morant, Lillard are all about as locked as it gets. SGA needs to get back on the floor and he's a lock. Edwards, Holiday, Irving, Haliburton, Brunson, Harden, Fox and Garland all deserve the last spot and it'll be the last 20 games to see who actually get it.

My All-NBA Teams 3/4 of the way through:

Jokic/Embiid/Sabonis
Giannis/Randle/Jackson
Tatum/Brown/Butler*
Mitchell/Lillard/Edwards
Doncic/Morant/SGA*

* = close to games played threshold and need to play more than half their teams games to finish out the season.

My 4th team would be Bam/Siakam/George/Holiday/Halliburton.

AD/James/Durant/Curry all wont have played enough games (all under 60) at this point.
Go Knicks!

I don't buy that Brunson and Randle are number 3 guys. They are both solid #2 guys on a play off team.

I agree. Can't convince me that championship year Middleton/Holiday (#2 and #3) are better than Randle/Brunson this season. So yes, I think both are solid #2 guys on a championship team. We really are just a superstar away. Or maybe 3 #2s can get us over the hump with a solid squad like we have now.

Somebody has to step up on the team or we trade for one.

That's tough because Middleton & Jrue were elite defenders, while Brunson & Randle are not. So it's hard to say that any offensive advantage our duo has outweighs those two's defensive advantage.

That said, I agree that with a true #1, Randle & Brunson would be perfectly fine as the 2nd/3rd option.

I would say they do outweigh them. For one they bring more than just offense. And if you swapped players I doubt the Knicks would be as good with Middleton and Jrue.

We would be worse if we were asking Middleton & Holiday (even of a couple years ago) to drive our offense...but would Milwaukee have been better with Ju & Jalen around Giannis? I'm less sure of that.

Only because of fit -mainly Julius- but based on talent I would say yes. Still I have to admit Jrue and Middleton fit perfectly on the Bucks- but that doesn't make them comparable. I think this seasons Julius is by and far better than Middleton.
