It's not like it's a complicated solution for Ja. He wants to do hoodrat things. All he has to do is grow the hell up. He obviously gets it from his father. I'm a fan of the kid and want him to succeed, but his circle is all wrong and stunting his growth.

From memory he had good grades prior to the NBA too. Despite acting like a knucklehead, again from memory, he had a very privileged upbringing.

And to add, he's also a grown man with money who doesn't have to worry about the random things many college students worry about, and he's there because he wants to be there, he doesn't "need" to be there. It's a lot easier to get good grades when you're mature, not concerned about little things and simply put in the time.

Our limited perspective from him as an NBA player and playing basketball doesn't actually tell us much about his ability to get good grades in school. It's not like he's an engineering major with a 4.0, which would just be tough in general, regardless of who it is.

Didn't think much of it but when compound all the other stuff like Pacers incident, beating up that kid, etc it's a bad look. I wonder if it someone like Karl Malone was still playing and just doing a hunting video if Jazz or NBA would have come down hard like this. I have no problems with someone having a gun hell, Me and gf decided to get a gun shortly after the 6th in case some whacko tried break into our home but to brandish it like it's a toy in a club of all places is idiotic and childish.

Didn't know this, but the CBA has specific language related to firearms at facilities/venues owned or used by NBA teams, or traveling on NBA business in any capacity. So that's his ass right there, before you get into the fact that there's a preponderance of other troubling incidents leading up to this.

Some PR flack probably wrote it. Demonstrate contrition, continue to do stupid stuff less publicly, wait for it to blow up again, repeat. Can't fix stupid.

Recklessly brandishing a firearm in public is illegal.

I’m not sure that meets the definition of brandishing. I don’t know the firearm laws in Colorado. In Arizona - what he did is legal.

Now if this is a moral code or policy that’s a different story. I’m just suggesting I don’t think what he did is that inherently bad

In Colorado open carry is legal. Except for Denver City/County. Now I don't know what strip club he was at, but most likely he was either in Denver or Glendale. If he was in Glendale, say at the hilarious in this case named Shotgun Willies, open carry is legal, but any business can prohibit guns on the premises as long as they have a sign visible stating such.

Now I don't go to a lot of strip clubs, but I'd be shocked if most didn't have that signage. Guns and booze and half naked women seem like a bad mix. Or maybe a great one, I don't know, but probably a bad mix. And I think that's what gets him into trouble. Granted, it's probably some misdemeanor, but still.

Also, if he was intoxicated (be it drunk or high or whatever) and handling a gun, that is also illegal in Colorado.

Look at the above tweet from Bobby Marks. He's in direct violation of NBA bylaws so legality doesn't come into it from the league's standpoint, although that could also still be in play.

JR Smith's dad was a former college and Pro-Am player, much like what seems to be happening with Ja, Jr's dad lived with him and was strict with him.

You can be book smart but an idiot as well as anybody. Jr's issue wasn't being smart it was being an idiot, he liked chasing hoodrats and drank way to much. His dad was strict with him and made JR live his rules in Jr's 1st house after he was drafted. He was reportedly such a problem that the Hornets traded him and the bulls dumped him after their initial conversation with JR and his dad, he never even took the physical.

Eventually everybody raised strictly rebels and both Jr and now Ja have to be doing it in the public spotlight. I have some good friends who were raised ina strict house. They all chase the thrill when they get the chance, fun is a commodity that is lost through their teen years. Just about all of us hung out with the wrong crowd for a little while, we have all done stupid things, but most of us did it in high school. These types didn't get the chance and went wild in college.

Jr reportedly grew up quick after his car accident and jail time, I hope Ja don't have to do something that dumb. Hopefully he will figure it out at some point though.

Like Earl Smith aka JR Smith?

Grew up rich, acted like a fool through his playing career, but has now grown up, gone back to college and was the academic athlete of the year at his college as a golf team walk on and a 4.0 average.

I am glad he grew up. It was a massive red flag that he said his dad's nickname for him was "Young Rich" because he was young... and rich. Then he had that car accident that killed his friend and I just assumed he was never going to get his sh#% together.

Denver restricts open carry? That’s interesting. Couldn’t imagine going into Phoenix and not being able to open carry.

Not all strip clubs out here allow alcohol and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen guns at strip clubs when I was in my 20s

If you weren't on your best behavior after all the incidents leading up to this something is wrong with you. These guys (the Spurs guy too) saying they need to work on their well-being, stress and mental health after they get caught is disgraceful. People get crippled by real mental health issues. They can't work regular jobs or function properly. It's a joke.

If you ain’t from the hood you can’t act like being from there. It comes out as fake and everyone can see through it. Frankly it’s an insult to the people who actually are from the hood and the struggles and hurdles they have to overcome to succeed in life.
