Jacque Vaughn benches starters after first quarter

Can someone give more context to this? Was it just because they had a bad quarter or was it effort related? Seems kinda bizarre to make that move after only 1 quarter, especially for a team of randomly assembled parts that just started playing together :dontknow:

He threw the game because it was the first game of a back to back. This is why the quality of the NBA is on the decline. Teams are gaming the system and strategically throwing games that they feel they shouldn't put any effort

He rested most of the starters. No cam Johnson. No claxton, no Spencer. No O’Neal who is sixth man. He started bench players mostly. And then benched them when they got blown out in the first half. The bench tonight got over 90 points and almost almost came back to win. I’d say that was successful.

The downside to all of this is that these players,who gave their all and got the nets back into this game against the bucks, will go back to the end of the bench and not play again. Lol. He will shove Thomas back to the Dnp list or stick him in the corner waiting for the ball. Yuta who was the best three point shooter on the team for the first half of the season will barely play the rest of the year. And we will rely on Noel as the back up center and sharpe will be sent back to the d league along with Duke etc.

I'm guessing it was punishment for sucking balls in the 1Q. It's JVs way of making sure they come out right to start games going forward or else...

Based on some of the comments I see, I often walk away feeling that many posters have never played organized basketball before...

So what? They have enough defense on the floor between Claxton, DFS, and Bridges. It’s not like Curry and Joe Harris are world beaters on that end of the floor anyway, he should easily be starting over both of them.

I’ve played for over 20 years and coached for over 10 years. I’ve never seen all the starters benched for the rest of the game after 1 quarter.

So please explain why this happened?

I think it's personal between JV & CamT. Otherwise, I see no universe where you play a 32yo soon to be free agent and a 31yo overpaid one-trick pony who both happen to be defensive liabilities, over a 21 year old promising shot creator (who also has defiencies on D), unless you're competing for a championship..

No surprise his minutes have decreased drastically.
