Shawn Kemp released from jail with no charges

This is according to the AP, from nba.com

Apparently, Kemp was acting in self-defense. I knew the story of a drive-by shooting made absolutely no sense. Nobody does a drive-by and then stays to talk to the police.

From the article:

In a written statement, another Kemp attorney, W. Scott Boatman, said Kemp’s vehicle was broken into Tuesday night and several items were taken — including an iPhone. Kemp tracked the phone’s location to an occupied car at the Tacoma Mall, and when Kemp confronted the individuals inside, they shot at him, and he returned fire, Boatright said.

“There was not a drive by shooting as previously reported and Mr. Kemp’s actions were reasonable and legally justified,” Boatman said. “Mr. Kemp met with law enforcement at the scene in an attempt to assist in the matter.”

Of course he was. I said there was more to this story immediately and people jumped on his throat like he’s an actual criminal. Good to see common sense prevail in Washington st

Once I tracked the phone's location I would think the best move would be to call the police. I don't know, maybe they wouldn't be useful but I'd rather they be the ones to confront potentially dangerous criminals since it's supposedly their job.

I'm really glad though to see this clarification. 53 year old Shawn Kemp performing a drive-by really did make no sense at all.

The police will not show to crimes like these anymore. He had no choice

It's possibly a morally damned if you do damned if you don't situation.

Maybe his intent was to confront who'd done it to give them grace and hope they learn a lesson vs getting the law involved and said person (especially if they're a young troubled kid or young adult) gets an arrest record that potentially contributes to them ruining their life.

In this case it could've been Kemp losing his life over an iPhone and other items.

For laughs tho that phone must've had some incriminating info or pics on that phone to go MacGruber to trace and get it back :lol:

Glad no one is injured and hope they find the thieves if they already haven't.

If these are the facts then it was obviously self defense....the cops couldn’t take a statement without locking him up?

That’s a serious question.

This doesn’t seem like trying to figure out what happened in oceans 11.

Criminal: hell naw...I love Shawn Kemp but when he came at me in panicked and started shooting...

Cop: and then what happened...

criminal: Shawn started putting shots up

Why are you charging him with a felony while you working to figure out what happened? This BS....self defense and firing a gun in self defense isn’t a felony - and you don’t just charge someone while you investigate OR a lot of cops would he charged...and rightfully we not charging cops while we investigate
