Re: Who do you think has been more valuable? Giannis or Embiid
In terms of RS play, I think I would go Embiid as having been more valuable.
Taking a look at their numbers:
*Does not include the most recent game for Giannis
Embiid (Net On/Off-11)
EPM-7.2
RAPTOR-7.8
LEBRON-5.10 (8.6 WAR)
SPI-4.98
RPM-9.16
Giannis (Net On/Off-7.5)
EPM-6.4
RAPTOR-6
LEBRON-5.48 (8.4 WAR)
Darko-Plus Minus-5.84
SPI-4.11
RPM-6.07
Embiid generally has the advantage in the impact metrics on a per-possession basis, where Embiid has a slight lead in overall WAR due to having played more minutes. I
I think a big part of Giannis' superiority over Embiid in years past when talking about who the best player between them, has been his general better health in the PS, along with his defense being arguably the best in the league. I don't necessarily think Giannis during the RS is going full throttle on defense, which I think makes things between he and Embiid closer in terms of a RS comparison. I also don't think the true value of Giannis' switch-ability and scheme versatility on defense, can be truly appreciated until the PS time, where it is beneficial to be able to switch up schemes depending on opponent.
The fact that Embiid seems to be more valuable than Giannis, on a comparably strong RS team (The Sixers have a 4.3-Net Rating to the Bucks 4.0 Net-Rating), makes me side with Embiid here.
I also think you could argue that Embiid is having perhaps an all-time scoring season at the moment.
Embiid is averaging an Inflation Adjusted 35.7 pts per 75 possessions on a rTS% of 6.3.
Giannis on the other hand is averaging an Inflation Adjusted 34.3 pts per 75 on a rTS% of 1.9%.
I think the advantage Embiid has over Giannis as a scorer here, is another feather in his cap.

Re: Who do you think has been more valuable? Giannis or Embiid
Embiid is a better pick here, I’m high on his RS signals since 2021 (when he’s taken more of that top dog role) - though I’m not close to insinuating he is on Giannis’ level as a player. It’s sort of like LeBron compared to RS versions of KD/Harden/Westbrook mid 2010s - where the PS is far more telling an indicator at the end of the day.
LukatheGoat definitely hit it on the head from more of a vacuum standpoint comparing the two. I think Giannis gets better and accrues his value more as the PS and his defense catalyzing ability kicks in more.
