Game Thread: T-Wolves vs Hawks -- 3/13/23

Hawks continue homestand with matchup vs. Timberwolves

Image

The Atlanta Hawks and Minnesota Timberwolves will meet on Monday evening at State Farm Arena, as the Hawks look to rebound from a tough defeat vs. the Boston Celtics on Saturday evening. Each of these teams is fighting for positioning and seems most likely to be destined for the NBA’s play-in round ahead of the traditional postseason series.

The Hawks have had mixed results in the early stages of Quin Snyder’s tenure, but overall the vibes seem positive despite some tough games of late, particularly the two road tests vs. the Miami Heat as well as the Celtics game. The adjustments to the new coaching schemes and styles will take time as Atlanta looks to install as much as they can on the fly following the unorthodox midseason change.

Minnesota has had an odd season, struggling out of the gates but ironically finding their footing after an injury to Karl-Anthony Towns. Each side enters this one at 34-34, needing a victory to try to inch their ways up the standings with so little time to go in the regular season. The Western Conference is much closer than the East with the Nos. 5-12 seeds separated by just 2.5 games as we near game 70 on the schedule.

It’s that time of the year where games begin to mean a bit more, so expect another competitive atmosphere on Monday evening. The Hawks will be looking to defend their home floor after failing to do so on the second half of the back-to-back vs. Boston on Saturday.

Hawks are a damn joke down 12 already, may as well cancel the rest of the season.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

Rough game so far. We've won the previous 5 meetings.

Trae has been on a hot streak since the Miami Massacre. But most of these top flight performances seem to be going to waste. Tonight being a perfect example…

So many problems with this team that it takes time. Bad habits are difficult to break. Coach has openly said he has to figure things out.

Just throw away the tape Quin. Nothing good can come from watching it. 17 assist, 15 TOs, 28% from 3, not getting back on defense, slow or non existent defensive rotations and Murray playing like he was drunk.

At this moment, Snyder has fixed some problems but there are new ones:
Murray is shooting 23/65 since 4 games and the Hawks are always dominated when playing with Capela

They basically get the week off here. I'm ready to demote guys if they come back from this mini break playing lethargic. I want to overhaul a few position groups this summer, we're wasting Traes prime years.

But is the offense even really the issue right now?

No, not the main issue but it would at least have left them in the game a bit more.
That said, tonight, Hawks were down about 20pts at one point with Murray at 1/9 and -27, so his offense was not better than the defense.

And talking about offense, Huerter is simply keeping SAC in the game Vs MIL right now in the 4th
He's 7/9 at 3pts, and even 8/10 if the ref hadn't call an illegal screen on Sabonis

Even if we intend to not keep him, he could have been traded for a player with a real contract instead of going below the tax threshold. It's something we can't get back once it's done.

EDIT: Huerter is at 8/10 now (9/11 without the illegal screen) with 4 minutes left
The problem of SAC is that they have no answer to Brook Lopez

:banghead:

Two stinkers in a row! Allergic to the air above .500. Sleepwalk mode alive and well. No offense. No defense.
If we're going to play this way at home, we need to hit the road and stay there!

They need a break. The signs of playing with a team that's too damn small and can't run you off the floor like prime GS and technically, GS in their prime is massive compared to us

Return to Atlanta Hawks
