Well, if Davies can be serviceable, not really a big deal.

I didn't expect anything from Hampton anyway.

Sucks for Hampton, but how did he re-injure it? While warming up? He must not have been fully healthy to begin with. I can't believe we're paying this guy $15 million, who ever signed him to that deal anyway?

Acutally I take this as a BIG hit for us. I am completely comfortible with Smoltz, Hudson, and James but Davies and Cromier( or Redman) worry me a bit. I was very impressed with Davies against the Mets. Hopefully he is ready to make the leap like many other pitching prospects have for us before. Hampton could have given us depth in the rotation. Either way, still seems like the first four are looking pretty good.

Hampton has a torn Vagina... out 6-9 months..? :o

So they couldn't diagnose this in the offseason? And took care of this, say in December so he would be serviceable in June or so?

Sorry but this is complete B.S. Hampton hasn't played a full season in lord knows how long.... it's time we buy out his contract and start with a fresh slate.

BOOOOOOO

this is a big blow IMO. Hampton, when healthy, was dominant a few years ago. The guy is a competitor and a nice pitcher. sad.

I don't exactly think it's a big blow, because this team is use to dealing with his absence, and we will move on. That's why we have some of the young arms that we have and added the arms to our bullpen.

If our 4th and 5th starter can keep their ERA's under 5 all year, and can make it through the 6th most of the time - we'll be fine.

Double stamp, the only thing Hampton is going to hurt us with is that big fat contract.

tath big fat contract is done at the end of next year. THANK GOD. I know insurance will pay for some of that. How does that affect us come the offseason? Will that allow us more money to try and resign AJ?

It should give us some money to resign him, but we also have to think about another starter for the rotation and most probably another 2nd basemen and relief pitcher.

Relief pitcher? Whats wrong with Paronto, Gonzalez, Soriano and Wickman?

Davies or Cormier could easily become dependable fifth starters, and Kelly Johnson has been pretty good @ 2nd.

Eh, I think we would be better off with another reliable relief pitcher in the pen..

I like Davies, but I dunno how reliable he can become for us, Cormier would probably be our best bet for a fifth starter.

I know Kelly is young and getting better, but he just doesn't get on base nearly enough to be our lead-off guy right now, and personally I don't think he can do that for his career.

i agree with kelly leading off. That's our weakest spot so far. We don't really have a guy on this team with loads of speed.
