Max Harden for 4 years is too much. Not even going to talk about 5, no way ill do it.
I can be fine with a 3 year max.
I guess if you don't have another option you could sign him to 4 years, but its going to be ugly at least for 1 year or 2.

How about we stop being cheap with the really good players. That's how we lose them... Pay Harden ... He's a key player .. hard to replace and is still very very good.

I love how Harden has played this season, but giving him a 5 year max is suicide, is even worse than the Harris contract. Also would require to trade several guys and then dump what comes back. If he walks and you trade Harris, the team has flexibility for the first time since the Elton Brand mess (and again, i would not want him to walk if he plays like he has so far)
He's already out of his peak and you're gonna be paying him until he's 38. Imagine if Embiid ask for a trade.
The 2 years deals are ideal for both sides i think, make easier and less risky for teams to trade for him if he wants out, which also helps him to land in a destination he wants.
But if he wants to go back to Houston, he's gonna go there anyway,

A 4 year max is being cheap now?

Seriously. I still think their window with Harden is just next year. Either he agrees to a 1+1 or 2+1... Or you let him walk.
Houston would be idiotic to max him out too.... in terms of years.
He's past his prime, but I do believe his game is aging well as a playmaker and shooter on the catch. But 5 years is crazy at Max dollars. Even if he mirrored this season, you can't trade that contract even after a year.

Re: Welcome James Harden!
We aren’t even allowed to give Harden a 5-year max because of the “over 38 rule.” Biggest contract we can offer is 4 years, $210 mil. I don’t think it’s unreasonable, but ideally we make the 4th year partially or fully non-guaranteed/highly incentivized.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:
Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Watford/Barlow/Walker
Embiid/Drummond/Bona/Broome
Maxey/McCain/Lowry

Re: Welcome James Harden!
Harden is balling. I would give him the 4 years max. His last contract year he will probably be washed, but its our best chance to win a title. If MAxey can improve as a scorer and defender, and we can get some decent players in a Tobias trade next year, i think we got a decent chance. If we lose Harden for nothing, Embiid will probably bolt and we are doomed anyways.

Still a horrible premise.
That contract would get untradable 2 or 3 seasons on the road, we already have no picks. It's just a bad deal. Even if we love what he's giving us right now.

Big guard with supreme skills. Future 1st ballot hall of famer. Doesn't rely on elite speed or athleticism. Great shooter and passer.
Stupid not to give him the max. We regretted Jimmy being cheap. Overpay for Tobias lol
Yet we won't give James Harden the 3 or 4 year .
76ers fans .. I really can't make this up

Re: Welcome James Harden!
This is up to Daryl Morey to figure out. I personally think Harden can continue doing what he's doing right now into his mid/late 30s. Give him the 4 year deal and let that be our window of opportunity. We're already locked in to PJ Tucker, so why not just roll with what we've got? I don't think this is a case of the team overachieving. We aren't winning above our means nor are we a fluke team. If the idea is to develop cohesion, then Harden has to stick around as does Maxey. Roll with the core of Harden, Maxey, McDaniels, Embiid, Tucker, Melton, and Reed. Fill out the remaining roster as we go.

So you’re willing to let him walk and face those consequences over a few million dollars? Unless he gets injured, he’s going to be valuable for the next 2-3 years. Stars are aging better than ever.
For the record, we have picks in ‘24, ‘26, ‘28, and beyond.

Re: Welcome James Harden!
Harden will at least be able to be a distributor when he is 36 years old, even if his scoring falls off a cliff. I'd give him the max for 4 years. Yeah he maybe won't be worth max money 2-3 years from now, but Tobias Harris was never worth the max from the 1st day he got it, same with Bum Simmons, that's what happens when you are enamored with youth and/or potential, this is a much better transaction, he will be worth the max for half the years at least, me thinks.
Think about it, in 3 years, when Harden starts to look "washed up", chances are that Embiid is worse than he is now with all the injuries, wear and tear and the nature of being a big man like he is. My point is that in 3 years, if Embiid is still here, we won't be strong contenders anyway, that contract won't hurt that much.

Re: Welcome James Harden!
Morey is gonna max him so the convo is pointless. The formula for the next 4-5 years is gonna be Harden + Embiid + Maxey surrounded by as many defenders as we can find/afford.

Agreed. We’re also going to need to hit on one of these late 1sts we still have. Won’t need to be a star, but a quality 2 way starter.
always a jump shot away.

I'm having flashbacks of this same thought process when it was time to resign Jimmy Butler.elchengue20 wrote:Max Harden for 4 years is too much. Not even going to talk about 5, no way ill do it.
I can be fine with a 3 year max.
I guess if you don't have another option you could sign him to 4 years, but its going to be ugly at least for 1 year or 2.
Who cares about the last year of the deal? If he walks we suck now and later. If we max him wr are good now and might suck later.

This, to me it's simple, you max very good players, and you don't max just decent young players.
