Need to quit pulling the ball out of the hoop and letting their defense set up by play better defense, getting a defensive rebound and not let the other team just set up defensively. It is crazy to see how easy of shots the other team gets throughout the game against some of the poor defenders on the team.
Then you need to explain why far worse defensive teams than us happen to be far better offensively than us....aren't they taking the ball out of the same net?
Defense has a ceiling, offense in the modern NBA almost doesn't.
Why are we almost always last in pace? No player is changing that..it's the system.
Miami is trying to go at a slower pace.
1. Miami doesn't have the offensive talent to go head-to-head against other teams to try to outscore them.
2. Miami's 2 best players don't shoot 3s but are efficient scorers.
3. Defense is a heavy in effort so for more possessions the more tired your players are.
So, these are the reasons why you go at a slow pace if you want to win games.
If Miami tries to pick up the pace... they're going to look worse.
Just with the eye test... Miami's 3pt shooters' roles have expanded this year. They are driving and kicking more vs then just take the 3pt shot and with that, you're removing one of the 3pt options on the court when they're being the passer vs Butler and Bam are making the passes. Herro got moved to the starting lineup replacing a catch and shoot SG and yet he handles the ball a ton which means he's only got 2 possible 3pt shooters to pass to whereas in previous years Bam or Butler had 3 3pt options to pass to.
If Miami's pace were to pick up, they'd probably get beat even more often and by bigger amounts with no real way to fix the situation in the next offseason.
A crazy idea, with Butler and Bam as Miami's best 2 players by far, how about fill up the roster with 2-way players vs players who are flawed on one side of the floor? It would be interesting in seeing what this team could do with no holes on defense.
