2022-2023 Regular Season Game 69: Orlando Magic (28-40) at San Antonio Spurs (17-50) - 8pm

It was one of the few times this season where the body language was just off from the start. The defensive communication wasn't there all night (still shaking my head on that breakdown between Gary and WCJ on the Sochan fastbreak dunk). I actually got to move closer down to near courtside in the 2nd half and seeing the lack of spacing on the court offensively is even more painful in person.

What is even more painful to me is the lack of a defensive/rebounding anchor on the roster. The one we have can't be counted on due to injury. The Spurs played inside-out all night and just killed the Magic with dribble penetration hence why the majority of the Spurs 3 point looks were wide open. Paolo scored well enough and was solid on the boards. The playmaking wasn't there tonight but to be frank, his teammates and coach did not help him much in that department. Pop picked up on Paolo scoring with ease in single coverage and started to shade help on his side a lot more. Competent shooting could've loosened that up but we do not have that. Franz didn't have the usual burst on his drives that he normally has. Thought we should have rested him last night so that he could heal some more for the Suns game.

Was just looking in on a thread named (something like) "Who is the best player you're team will trade...". Some BRK fans suggested that Claxton could be available for a high pick. Depending on where BRK's leadership stands on their rebuild status...it could be. I think WCJ is a great player, but Claxton or a defense-first, rim-running, "better at the things we need" Center could be a part of our offseason plan. I'd happily give the CHI pick (#8?) for Claxton and plug him right between Paolo and Franz. I could see WCJ getting a significant role backing up 4 & 5 (the role I envisioned for Isaac) or being moved, by himself or in a package, for a scoring guard (Simons or Poole?).
Our guard problems are primary, but a throwback defensive Center might also be on our shopping list. No knock on WCJ-he's a great young player on a great deal- which makes him an attractive chip to improve our team...I'd prefer to keep him, but you have to give to get and our starting lineup is the priority...If BRK is hoarding picks and cap space, we have a lot of things to discuss with them (Bridges, Cam Johnson, Claxton, DFS, even Dinwiddie).

I'll be shocked if Jalen Suggs isn't in the starting back court next year on day 1. If I were WEham I would target Anthony Black with one of the picks for sure.

I'm not crazy about Smith's size or injury history. Black will get Banchero, Wagner, WCJ, Suggs easy looks. Suggs, Wagner, Banchero, WCJ I expect to all get better at shooting the 3. But too much focus is placed on the 3pt shooting on the team and not the play making. Black is a pass first point guard.. yes but he has the size to cover 2's and 3's. And you can draft a shooter with the other pick and sign someone to add to Cole and Houstan.

If not Black I would go with Dick.

I have the same concerns about Smith's body...I really like these solid guys like Scoot and Donovan Mitchell...they carry substantially more 'armor' and don't crack when they feel a bit of contact...in fact, they dish out the punishment on their way to the rim. I've got a million angles on the draft and trades/FA to fill out our team, but if we end up with Gradey Dick in the mix, I'll be good with it.

Sorry that was your experience. I know the feeling of frustration. I know this team is going in the right direction but man, sometimes it's hard to watch.
