The biggest thing is that MJ's yes men and old school basketball thinking are gone, if new governors take place

If we draft Wemby and this team miraculously pays a hefty relocation fee and moves I'll kill someone

The team moved in '02 because the fans hated the scumbag owner. If the team is winning and there's no scumbag, there's no reason to move because it'll be making money and these owners have no tie to major markets aside from New York.

Also, I will be the first in line to kill someone if so

Does a team sale not deserve its own thread anymore?

I might be in the minority but I actually like Jordan as an owner. He has delivered a DECENT product and if healthy would have delivered a lot more... He is a very active owner and aggressive.

If MJ stays on as a minority owner, does this more or less mean Plotkin/Schnall own the team but MJ is still having a lot of influence on how its run?

Governor is their new politically correct term for owner isn't it?

FWIW I'm not at all comfortable with a guy with an ownership stake in another team buying into the Hornets. "Conflict of Interest" in big teal and purple letters.

Plotkin seems like a doucher too. I've advocated for MJ to sell for awhile now, but it would be such an MJ move to sell to somebody who is part of another team and some hedge fund dude

You can't be the owner of one NBA franchise and the minority owner of another at the same time. Probably can't even own minority stakes in multiple teams.

This would be similar to Tepper's situation, he had a minority stake in the Steelers which he had to sell in order to buy the Panthers.

I don't know nearly enough about either of these guys to have an informed opinion on if this will improve management. If the team stays in Charlotte that's all that really matters to me.

Fair point, but at least Tepper came from an org with a long history of success and is rich as ****.

This guy is poor (lol relatively) and would come from Atlanta.

Doesn’t entirely surprise me. I think MJ has other interests that are more motivating now (NASCAR team), coupled with his frustration at not winning. We’ve seen how he gets impatient, pushing for moves that don’t pan out. He also knows how mute the $ value of the team has become…probably time to cash out on a lot of that.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Yeah but if I'm not mistaken a new owner could pay a ridiculously absurd amount of money to relocate

It's all but official that the league is expanding to 32 teams with Seattle and Vegas getting teams. The Hornets aren't going anywhere.

It would be a monumental admission of failure for the league to award Charlotte a second team and then relocate them too. If they can't sell basketball in North Carolina that's 100% on them, Spectrum would be packed if the 21st century franchise wasn't arguably the worst in North American pro sports. The area is also one of the fastest growing metro areas in the country so that's another good reason not to abandon it.

Since we came into the league It's between us, the Lions, Browns, and Mariners

I'd rank them in order from worst to just a little bit worst

1. Lions
2. Hornets
3. Browns
4. Mariners

My guess is these are temporary buyers and one very rich owner will buy it outright so that everyone makes a **** ton of money

I'd prefer Tepper over these guys. At least Tepper has proven to be willing to spend and make big moves.

Evidently that guy is already a co-owner. He joined in 2019.
