Have I been wrong about Kelly? He is certainly doing and saying all the right things right now. I honestly have no idea what the number looks like to resign him.

Oubre's on his best behavior to secure that fat contract. He's in the best possible situation. Starter minutes for most of the season, unlimited green light and a front office with a history of bad contracts. Dude probably feels like this is destiny.

I don't hate Oubre, for the record. In a defined role as bench chucker who gets a quick hook if it's not working that night he's a useful piece. It just seems like we're being set up for a 'Mitch gave him WHAT???' moment in July so it's hard for me to fully appreciate what he brings to the table at the moment.

On the bright side, one thing that is beyond question is that the Oubre/Terry backcourt are the Eisenhower/Patton of tank commanders. If they lead us to Wemby I'd consider giving them a little plaque in the Spectrum concourse.

If the team doesn't land in the top 2 (which is likely) all of the best options are wings. Brandon Miller, the Thompsons, Black, Whitmore, and Dick are all wings. IF we also intend to give Bridges a contract it doesn't make sense to sign Oubre on top of that. And that's not even considering what we'll do with PJ, Richards, and DSJ. Oubre, as well as he's playing, should be the odd man out. That said if we let Bridges walk that changes things.

Oubre is great as a microwave, break glass in case of emergency, option you put back on the shelf if he isn't hitting shots.

The issue has always been that he's too confident and doesn't know when or how to do the other things when he isn't hitting shots, so he becomes unplayable.

After his comments last year, i don't get the impression that he's accepted his role as a 6th man who doesn't get 30 minutes a night on a winning team and may not be okay with getting paid as a bench player.

I wouldn't commit to him long term unless it's on a discount

lol if this is supposed to be Oubres career year. Hes shooting 33% from 3pt, which is his career mark. Hes at 54% true shooting, which is his career mark and below league average. Hes barely averaging over 1 assist in 33 minutes, which puts his assist% at 3.5% worse than Bismack Biyombos this season. His net rating is -8, which is worse than his -5 career mark (never had a positive net for a season). His bpm is negative on offense and defense and his overall is at -1.1, which isn't far off from his -1.7 career mark (also negative every season of his career). Hes giving a contract year effort on defense (by his standard) and is still a bad defender.

Hes getting a ton of minutes on a horrible team with no expectations that is the last place that still thinks hes a good player in a big role. Hes a great tank commander, but they should not resign him under any circumstance if they are serious about being a winning team.

I think Kupchak could stick around for a bit longer, but Clifford is 100% gone this summer.

Any ideas on what coaches might be interested in the job with new ownership in place? If we get lucky and win the Wembanyama lottery I imagine we'd have a lot of quality options interested.

If I were ownership I'd go big and make an all out effort to lure in someone that has Charlotte ties and an impeccable resume - Tony Bennett. His offensive philosophy doesn't mesh with LaMelo, but I have confidence he'd adapt his schemes to get the most out of both LaMelo and the rest of the roster.

They should extend him as a sign of ambition when the new owners take over.

One way or another, we're gonna get a #1 pick.

Yep, all about the lottery (again) right now. I think this year will be different though because of the change in ownership, we might not land the 1st pick but I think we'll be in the top 3.

Wembanyama, Scoot, or Miller will be wearing teal and purple next season.

I never liked Bonnell, but nevertheless RIP. I feel bad for his friends and family that he died suddenly out of nowhere. That's one of my worst fears, I want to be able to say goodbye before I go.

That said Boone is too quick to go with the company line, just like Bonnell was. I guess he feels like it keeps his job secure, but I will never be a fan of reporters essentially being PR spokespeople for organizations they're supposed to provide some accountability for. Boone should feel comfortable critiquing the management of the team, if he doesn't the Charlotte Observer is not doing its job.

Denver is unravelling like I thought they would but they waited to win 46 games before they did, sucks to be Mitch

They've dropped to 4th highest record. The Kings of all teams are only 3.5 games back now.

Hornets have locked in a top 5 lottery pick odds, They are 7 games ahead of Orlando with 10 to play, so it looks like top 4 is a lock, and they are 4 games back of Spurs and Rockets for 2nd/3rd worst record.

The Pelicans have completely folded and there is no doubt they will win the Wembenyama lottery to give us another slap in the face
