It literally looks like he’s trying to hide from having to play defense. He is clueless or completely unable .

Re: I can’t wait for the Lakers to sign D’Lo
The ice in D Lo’s veins comes from his frozen defensive heart. This could explain the defensive brain freeze. *drum fill
His brain works so well (elite) on offense but seemingly shuts down all function on defense. It’s very odd to watch.
He runs to the same defensive spot every time and he avoids all contact as much as possible. As if he’s hiding while trying to appear defensively active. Is he avoiding fouling? It’s laughable. Or maybe it’s a mentality issue that can be fixed? He’s brilliant on the other end…
Second units worst player on the other team might not get the ball. D Lo will have to come off the bench to guard that guy in the playoffs.

Brilliant on the other end? Some games yes but the problem is if he’s useless when he’s not shooting well because he doesn’t attack the basket enough to get to the line. Reaves and Schroder are not in the same class as D’Lo in terms of 3 pt shooting but they can get to the line more and get higher % shots.

Re: I can’t wait for the Lakers to sign D’Lo
Russell is the same player who played here before. He can hit some 3 pointers occasionally and make some decent passes but in total he's a very limited player that doesn't move a needle one bit in the right direction for a team. If he did.... he would still be on one of the previous 4 teams in the last 6 years. It's not like everyone he's played for is missing something with him. I compared him to Steve Francis before. That's actually a pretty significant overreach as well.
If this team re-signs him to a long term deal it will show that we are the ones who can't see what everyone else sees in him. That would seal the next 5-6 years of lower 25% finishes in the standings as well.

He can prove us wrong if he can play outta his mind the last 10 games. Just give more effort on D. Help out on the boards. Dive after loose balls. Stop being so 1 demensional. If ur 3 isn't falling then find other ways to score. Cut, draw a foul and post up do sth to get a easier shot. If he has another stinker tomorrow vs orl I would question his leadership, his mentality and his work ethic.

Re: I can’t wait for the Lakers to sign D’Lo
He’s basically a taller kyrie Irving in defense
He has stupid defensive principles
Has no idea where to go, what defense the lakers are running, how to not fall for a pump fake. He looks at his man like the guy is not allowed to be defended
But rest assure LBJ has been through this with Kyrie
LBJ would tell Kyrie just make sure you score the ball and I’ll keep you in the game young blood
DLO has to score and stop being the Favre of basketball (keeping both teams in the game)

I can’t wait for the Lakers to trade D Lo. He’s sparkling at times on offense but gives up way more in the other end. Fool’s gold.
Even if we win it all, it would be despite his useless defense. I wouldn’t put him on the floor against any starting lineup in the playoffs because they’ll rip us apart.
Can’t believe I’m saying it but Westbrook’s horrendous defense was actually “better” than D Lo’s.
D'Lo brings a lot more offensively than he gives up defensively, unlike Westy who was far worse defensively despite looking a bit more flashy defensively at times.
I think he's a great fit as a secondary ballhandler next to Lebron and AD and his size and skills makes it relatively easy to build the team becuase he can play the 2 and can play both on and off the ball. With the way the team is looking with regards to salary i think the Lakers pretty much has to keep him around though. If they let him walk they wont be able to replace him.
That's mainly if his shot is falling (efficiently). If it's not he's usually a pretty big negative on the floor.

For those who really analyze our defense in more detail than they do our offense, it’s fairly obvious. For those fans who are not defensive nut jobs like some of us are, D Lo’s defense might be evaluated based on his offense. Dunno. Not only is D Lo’s defense league worst compared to current competition, but I’ve never seen any player more confused on that end. Like ever. I’m not being hyperbolic. Anyone who disagrees should rewatch the Mavs game. It’s comedy.

I like DLo. But he’s a #3, not a #2. So feels kinda harsh judging him before he gets to play with Bron.
If he can still go 18/6 a night when Bron comes back and shoot 38+% from 3 on 7 attempts a night then that’s fine with me.
I wouldn’t be giving him $35m a year though. I don’t think he’s worth more than $25m. I know the sign and trade for Kyrie is talked about but can’t help feel that would he tough. Not sure the FO has the ability to pull that off as it would them need to put in a lot of effort making sure the rest of the roster isn’t full of bums. Could bring back Rui and Reaves if they’d take $11/12m a year and probably TBJ on the TPMLE as well as hope Wenyen takes anoter year on the vet min but then would need to let Dennis, Lonnie, Bamba, Reed go and replace them all with vet mins. Which they’d need to do with Beasley as well as he’d need to be included in the Kyrie s&t

Watch his defense. Nothing seriously wrong with his offense. He’s good offensively, sometime shows flashes of brilliance. That’s not the issue.
How will LeBron help him with defense?
If you play only one side of the court, half of your check should be cut out, and your team still won’t win. To win it all, you need a team defense system and you need 15 solid defensive players.

Re: I can’t wait for the Lakers to sign D’Lo
I thought the entire reason for DLo's improvement on defense (at Minnesota), was the one that was making the reads and was communicating to teammates like a defensive general.
Defense is a team effort and someone has to make the reads. DLo's individual defense leaves a lot to be desired, but we all know AD's not going to be the one talking and making sure rotations are on point.
When Lebron comes back, Lebron will be the one hidden on the weakest attacker and calling out the reads, so DLo will need to be the one chasing on the perimeter again. Perhaps the offense will be so good, maybe it won't matter as much.

Steph can’t defend. And there is no issue with him.
The issue is the 2-guard. If it’s trash like Beasley then it’s a problem. If it’s someone like a KCP though who can defend then DLo would be fine, especially with AD and Vando in the line up too.

I’m sorry that I disagree, but D Lo is completely clueless on defense. Hiding a point guard on defense is not a concept for the playoffs that I can ever get behind. I’d make an exception for one player: Magic Johnson. Okay, and Pistol Pete and Petrovic. All others need to be bulldog defenders to play on a team next to LBJ age 40 and AD Streetclothes.
Winning rings isn’t exactly something you can cheat your way to.

Honestly, who is a good defensive point guard that could shoot now a days? Who is a good defensive player, period? There are really no that many. I think we will be fine with Dlo.stan francisco wrote:That_Casual wrote:stan francisco wrote:

Cool story and great strategy. You’re saying that we should pretend that the opponents’ guards also no longer play defense?
D Lo is the inverse Simmons, absolutely worthless on one end.
FVV, Smart, Paul, Conley, Beverly, and there are a ton of new young players who seem to get it on both ends.

If a great shooter like Steph is such a horrible defender then how come most opposing teams can’t exploit this glaring weakness when they play GSW?
Boston should have hunted Steph every possession during the Finals..are they that stupid?
Is Kyrie a traffic cone? Then why didn’t the Lakers get a ton of layups when they faced him during their last game?

DLoadathol™
Some side effects DLoadathol™ include "Ice In The Veins". Symptoms include sporadic scoring outbursts followed by inefficient scoring/bad shot selection, lazy turnovers, slow movement/lack of effort on defense, and delusions of grandeur (I'm an Alpha too!).
Do not take DLoadathol™ if you are allergic to DLoadathol™ and seek immediate free agent help if you are planning on competing for anything outside of mediocrity/first round playoff exits. Some users of DLoadathol™ may experience massive mood swings including signing inefficient chucking PGs to max contracts, followed by wanting to trade said PG for a bag of chips and a bus ticket.
Ask your Doctor if DLoadathol™ is right for you!
