If Luka has FULLY figured out how to play without the ball, why the heck is he standing there and watching and making himself not a part of the ball flow?

What is Kyrie doing when Doncic is not playing? What is THJ doing? What is Green doing, etc... Are they watching or are they cutting/moving without the ball?

Maxi or Powell set screen for either Kyrie or Hardy and it's the same BS as if Luka played. Others stand around and watch what either one of them will do. Draymond Green talked about it in podcast, Mavs offense is easy to figure out, KD talked in interview. You stop Luka and Mavs lose.

How on earth do other players figure Mavs out but Mavs themselves can't see what they are doing wrong? Mavs are 5-10 without Doncic and you're talking like they are 20-0 lol... They even have a losing record WITH Kyrie now 6-7.

Some people still can't figure out that with this team, constructed as it is, and with this coaching, doing almost nothing on the sidelines, Luka is still able to maximize their potential. Him and Kyrie are the NBA's best scoring duo, along with Luka producing (scoring or assisting) the most points in the league.

So my question to you is.... What ball flow? What motion offense? What the heck are Mavs doing so differently without Doncic that it actually STILL DOESN'T work, but for some reason, you like it so much???

Mavs still play the same offense with luka or without, heavy iso ball with kyrie or hardy. Then they thrown in some pick and roll with powell and wood... People just like to complain and hate on luka when he is in the corner.

Remember the 3 games winning streak (small sample size i know) we played great against Jazz Clippers Kings? Doncic was sitting and 2 of those 3 games were led by Kyrie, I thought the ball flow in those three game were pretty great. And then Luka was back and the struggle began.

I know the team is learning to play with each other, but you cannot deny the fact that Luka led the team to a 3-7 records after the Kyrie trade.

Where was the ball movement yesterday? Kyrie 0 assists.

He has been injured for a while now and hasn't looked right but he forced the issue and tried to play through. Like i said, Kyrie/Luka were not the problem Mavs were losing. They are not the only 2 people on the floor. Mavs issue for 5 years is the center problem. Their starting center had 1 rebound yesterday and is averaging 5 for his whole career and 0.5blks.

Fair point about their first 3 games but what do you think happened then? You think Doncic walked in to the gym with a shotgun and said "Guys, if you continue playing like this i'll go on a shooting spree..!" Why can't coach figure out what to do to make it work?
Were those 3 games just adrenalin rush because they just got another star or how much of that is Luka's fault if i just told you they are basically the best 2-man offensive combo in the NBA?

So what is the bigger issue here? Defense, no rim protection, lack of rebounding, almost no coaching adjustments during the game, horrible clutch out of bounds plays? Or Luka on offense not moving without the ball?

This is it. There's no player movement or ball movement (unless Luka, Kyrie or Hardy penetrate and kick out - then we do the extra passes for the open shooter) and no drawn up plays and even worse out of timeouts it's still just iso ball mayhem  :banghead:
I really liked Kidd for the success we had last year but this year has been really painful to watch as an adult human with an IQ above 100.

To be honest, i want to believe he was just trolling the media. NO way a coach at this level being paid this amount of money would think like that.

I don't know, Kidd might be thinking he needs to coach like Phil Jackson, letting player figure out themselves during a bad run.

And I am not trying to defend Kidd. Something is definitely happening in the moment that we don't know. And this is expected when a team is losing more than winning, and more loss will come because of this.

He's just strangely negative... or tries to provoke other users (report button exists for this). Since he's been following Luka for a long time... he deserves that credit, but there's no doubt a couple of comments are strange and have felt like non starters as far as discussion goes. With that said, many times some bad opinions, negative and others provoking things generates discussion. So hopefully, we are able to ignore some things, engage with others and just co-exist.

Return to Dallas Mavericks
