Deserves a thread, will probably get locked.
At the game last night vs NYK, sat 2 rows up (thank you KIA).
The crowd was pro-Knick all night. Everytime they scored, crowd was loud as hell (much louder than when we scored). This changed in the 4th after MOE got that dunk off the break. But overall, if my eyes were closed and all I had was sound you would absolutely think you were in New York watching a Knicks home game. It's embarrassing..
Now before you call me a old man yelling at the cloud, I FINALLY have proof that this bothers the players as well. During a time out in the middle of the second quarter, i saw Wendell & Paolo & Gary gesturing to the crowd to relax with all the Knick Love, they were clearly annoyed. I'm not the only one who saw them do it either, my whole section and the section below were talking to each other about it all game.
I've always been upset when opponents fan bases out cheer us on our home floor, I've made threads over the years bitching about this. But to see our guys get upset as well, that says something. You can't help but wonder what they think about the fan base here in ORL. It's not just the Knicks either guys, even the damn Hornets fans out-roared us this year and we are talking about ....Charlotte......
Can anyone in this thread relate to the frustration I have with this? The players certainly can

ORL is a transient place (not to mention tourists). It’s not uncomfortable to ask anyone you meet “Where are you from?”. You don’t get asked that in NY….believe me, when Shaq & Penny were destroying the league, people in the Orena forgot their hometown teams. We’ll get there. Kind of like UCF…biggest school in the state, but basically invisible among all the Gators/Seminoles/UM trash talking until Bortles and the sports program took off…now you see UCF gear and chatter a lot more…it takes generations. Hard to quit your childhood team…especially when they’re better than the local option…I fell in love with Larry Csonka running people over in 1974 and I’m still a big Phins fan even though they haven’t played a single down that resembled that style.
Winning changes everything. Sending them home with their mouths shut more often is a big step.

Same experience here I was down in the lower bowl and I was surrounded by Knicks fans and could see the frustration on the players especially during the big run to tie it up in the third quarter. But it wasn’t just the about the amount of Knicks fans the arrogance to heckle us as a bad franchise was extremely rich. The reality is winning will help this.
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

The Magic can easily help change this problem but it would require them not maximizing profits…which they are very hesitant to do.
Winning fixes this but the last 10 years did a lot of damage.

Re: Deserves a thread, will probably get locked.
Let's face it, Knicks fans have a lot to be excited about...they added an explosive floor general and their team is now on a whole new trajectory. "Bums" like Randle, that they wanted to give away are borderline superstars and they're now adding winning pieces like Hart to a solid core...it's not a "hater" thing - it's just the way it works. Were the Bucs contenders the day before Brady blessed them with instant contention?
Re: the arena fans...lots of thoughts about this for decades, nothing can be done about it except win them over on the court. It does suck for the young guys, especially, but that's the way it is...certainly not only here.

Re: Deserves a thread, will probably get locked.
Been talking about talking my son to a game. I'll avoid the Knicks.
To be frank. Us Orlando fans have had very little to be excited about. I would be lying if I didn't say I looked at the price of tickets against a poor performing team and thought I could take my son to that game and give him a sport experience.
Otherwise; this hobby is expensive, arguably not family friendly especially if your kids hate loud noises (been deaf so I can't tell the difference), and if it wasn't for this forum and Paolo I would probably still not be paying attention to anything sports related.

We could win 3 straight championships and it wouldn't change the fact that this city is filled with NY'ers that still love their Knicks.

Just not true...I was going to a lot of games in the Shaq days (when the team was in its infancy). It was the place to be...all the pro golfers, etc. People dressed up. Nobody was even thinking about the opposition that was about to get smoked. I forget the home record...was like 2 home losses all season (I think?). TOTALLY different environment. Electric.
Now there's also apparently a lot of tourism promotion...so people travel with packages that include Magic tix. It's like Disney and people add them on like cruise excursions. They’re coming to ORL anyway for theme parks, conventions, etc, might as well catch a game. Even limited markets like MIL are always representing...probably also explains the insane pricing for even mediocre games. I used to have season tix and still do a small package of games - but if it wasn't a business expense, forget it! On the other hand, if I were on vacation, stinginess out the window.

You don’t think New Yorkers will go to Knicks games because the magic won a few championships? They won’t even embrace a team in one of their own boroughs

I’m talking specifically about magic/knicks games.

Yes there will always be ny knicks fans but it would not be anywhere near as bad as its been the last few years. In the dwight years you had opposing teams fans at the games but it was manageable and for the most part magic fans still out weighed them. Even in the first 5-7 years of the rebuild it wasn't this bad. I mean its beyond wild to go to these games and hear the out roar cheering for the opposing them, but this is part self inflicted and the dynamic of being a young transplant city. The magic organization have not help themselves by putting out a crappy product for 10 straight years after a small championship contender run. This city is literally the most transplant city of any team in the nba. Its not gonna change again until they start winning, and winning at a high level with a prolific player. Fans showed up in the shaq and penny days, fans showed up in the dwight years, hell the arena was jammed pack to watch t-mac. We need a star and we need to win. Its that simple
GO MAGIC

What have the Knicks won in the last 50 years to have the fans that you think will show up in Orlando after a few good years?
Sure, the bandwagoners will show up once we start winning but fanbases like the Knicks have doesn’t depend on winning. It’s cultural. We live in football country.

I noticed that watching it on tv, screams for every positive Knick play. I went to the Miami OT game a couple weeks ago and it was the same thing. I get angry seeing that, our team is on the way up and deserves a house full of their fans.

ny fans pay big bucks for seats...scalping in the 90s you could get 4x face for knicks, lakers and bulls games many season ticket holders sold them i knew to cover some costs ..not sure still like that now but alot of new yorkers in florida

Yes because NY isn't half as nice as Orlando and they can talk all they want but they prove it by deciding to live in Orlando.

Let's not trash cities or states

I think the crux of the argument is that some teams just travel well historically. I've seen Laker chants in Boston and Knicks chants in Milwaukee. It kinda is what it is.

I'm saying there won't be any tickets for them because home team fans will actually show up. I'm a recovering NYer and I go root for my favorite team, the Magic.

Great idea...let's do a poll and see how much us insanely dedicated ORL fans spend on in-person tickets each season. NY has waiting lists...just a different market...unless ORL is killing it and drawing people in.

FYI. Winning cures everything. Until this team becomes a winning organization, the fans won't give them the love.
