Dallas was underachieving before Kyrie came.

They were better prior getting Irving , when team was healthy. They were in the play off zone.

They were hovering around .500 all year, +/-3-4 games. They were a poor defensive team all year (24th) and they were a slight cold streak away from going on a losing run. They were 6-9 in the stretch preceeding getting Kyrie. This was a poorly built team before getting Kyrie that for some odd reason doubled down on offense and traded their only defender with size.

It was a dumb deal, but all it did was follow a long line of dumb deals. This is a terribly formed team and im not even sure how you move on from it.

The funny thing is there will be a team next year that thinks it’s a good thing to sign this guy. Teams never learn.

Seriously wouldn’t take him on the Celtics if he was willing to sign a 1 year vet minimum deal.

Only desperate NBA teams sign Kyrie Irving

He will have a wakeup call like Caremlo did a while back, when he is not being courted by major teams with max deals. Carmelo also never had the off-court issues that Kyrie has on a regular basis.

Except Carmelo was a terrible player by that point while Kyrie is one of the best PGs in the league.

Is he though?

Luka, Trae, Ja, Darius, Dame, these are five guys off the top of my head that I'd much rather have than Irving right now. And I'm barely even trying when it comes to coming up with players, I'm sure there's something I'm missing.

Edit: Turns out there's a few more. Tyrese Haliburton is another one I'd rather have, same with Fox. Hell, I'd even rather have James Harden right now. At least I know he can run an offense.

And holy ****, how on earth did I forget about Curry? That's a pretty embarrassing blunder on my part.

So Irving BARELY even cracks the top ten. And quite frankly, I wouldn't be surprised at all if someone out there managed to give me a name and was able to convince me to take them over Irving.

IMO the absolute worst thing the lakers could do for their future is to sign Irving. They just made great trades and are headed in the right direction. Irving would set them backwards. I could see lakers doing it though if they don't do well in the playoffs and Lebron pushes hard enough.

Ratings are down because there is no truly great team and the Lakers, outside the bubble championship, haven't been dominant in recent years.

People talk about how superteams and such ruined the league, but the NBA has always been at its most popular when there have been dominant teams. The 80s illustrates that better than anything when it was just 2 teams combining for 13 out of 20 Finals appearances.

People always cried for parity. This year has more parity and close to .500 teams than ever and ratings are down. Zion always being hurt and playing in a small market along with MVP candidates being non-American hasn't helped.

Keep in mind the Mavs had to give up assets to get both Luka and Porzingis to begin with. That stripped away at their depth.

And Luka was kind of Lebron-like out of the gate in that he pretty much prevented the team from going to the high lottery again, thus they couldn't really get another franchise pillar to put next to him. That was basically what happened in Lebron's 1st stint in Cleveland. He was actually too good, too soon. That's what prompted them to after Porzingis, because they knew they weren't going back to the lottery. They were hoping he'd revert back to pre-injury, all-star Porzingis and be a #2 for Luka.

Contrast this with KD's first couple years in OKC. He wasn't quite good enough to immediately lift a rebuilding team into the playoffs, allowing them to pick high lotto for another 2 drafts, and they were able to draft 2 future MVPs to put next to him. And that would've resulted in a championship or 3 by now if they had owners who could afford the lux tax.

And all he has to say is "I understand the frustration and we want to win too. We are dinged up and not playing as well as we want and should. We are going to keep fighting and hopefully turn things around."

It's just typical kyrie where he thinks he is paid $40m a year to put an orange ball into the basket. He doesn't seem to understand where the money comes from.

You mean "All we WANT him to say"... Players snipe at eachother, the fans: "Yes, we need MORE of this, screw this buddy-buddy crap!" Players snipe at fans, for sniping at players FIRST: "Wait, he can't do that! DANCE, monkey!"

you know mark cuban was gon take his chances but kyrie and luka seemed like an odd pair of stars to try to pair up since the start.. luka jus startin he gon want to go out there n try to b the man every night unlike the harden experiment in brooklyn where harden already had his super star experience in houston and had nothin to prove to no body or even himself so he had no issue takin that step back n change his approach and role

i dont mind the pairing in general. I mind the pairing for a team that was 24th in defense and already had a top tier offense.

How are they gonna afford James, Davis, Kyrie, and Russell? They cant have have both Kyrie Irving and DeAngelo Russell and they have already said they want to sign Russell to an extension in the offseason = Kyrie is not going to the Lakers in the summer

Who knows knowing Irving he'll just take a minimum contract

Kyrie doesn't play good defense. Neither does Luka.

And Kyrie doesn’t contribute to that?

The value of a point guard who can stop the ball on defense can be seen in the Kings since Dec..

1st quarter Fox doesn’t care and the Kings are ranked 25th in defensive rating

4th quarter Fox locks in on defense and the Kings are 10th in defensive rating

Lol.

Luka is one of the worse defenders in the league. I would say that he's a bigger liability on defense.

No argument from me but Kyrie is also in the 25%

Nah he wants to get paid and Cuban will be desperate enough to pay him. You think Cuban will just let him walk after trading away assets and a first round pick for him? Irving will be a Mav next year or slight chance he is involved in a sign and trade but i think the lakers sign Russell to a 4 year contract extension. No Kyrie in LA. Miami for Lowry, another player and a pick maybe? Kyrie in Dallas or Miami.

It's not as if they did a Gobert trade and gave up control of their drafts for half a decade.

People were wondering how the hell they would ever get their #2 option to put next to Luka and then the rare opportunity came along. There was no way they were going to pass on the trade.

Dallas kind of has to re-sign him no? I mean if Cuban lets him walk then is Dallas in full rebuild mode with Doncic steering the tank?
