Dalek wrote:Keyonte George is going to be a great pro and fits a lot of needs for Toronto with self-creation and star upside.

Watch his film he has great shooting mechanics, nice elevation, and honestly just has real poise and confidence on court. When I first watched his film I thought he reminded me of Buddy Hield. I know Buddy was a prolific college scorer but in year one he was only shooting 24% from three. George had crazy volume at Baylor and was a volume shooter who I believe ranked 5th in unassisted threes (27):

77-228 34 3P%

The ability to self-create and his high freethrow percentage stand out:

36 FTR
4.5 freethrows per game
79 FT%

Key games to watch that show the star power: In Feb. Kansas (20 pts and 5/10 from three); Kansas St. (23 pts and 6/10 from three), best game in Jan. at West Virginia (32 pts and 5/9 from three), early season victory against Gonzaga (18 pts and stellar defense).

Playmaking is surprising and not just dump-offs in the paint like a combo-guard. He does play pick and roll, and can make difficult cross-court and interior passes. He does have some turnover concerns, but it might be more teaching that is needed than a glaring issue.

20 AST%
20 TO%

Defense is where I think he surprises. He is a strong body and has at least average wingspan but not outlier. His DBPM is only 0.3 but he had nice defensive numbers and from the film he competes:

2.3 STL%
0.7 BLK%
1.1 steals per game

He reminds me most of D'Angelo Russell and some of James Harden with his scoring outbursts and flashy passing.

Jaden Hardy and Keyonte are very similar players even their pre draft careers in college/gleague match up very well stats wise.
He was disappointing and eventually went 37th but he's been showing out for the Mavs recently to end off the year looking more like the high prospect he was expected to be.
Hardy is slightly more athletic and longer despite being shorter but Keyonte is a much better passer

I'm mad at Hawkins for raising his stock. Was praying he'd be available in our range.

Hawkins definitely still in range, and likely be there 20ish. How high do you have Hawkins going?

I don't see the best shooter in the draft going in the late teens or early 20's.

I think he goes in the 9-12 range.

He’s going lottery.

How high will depend on his wingspan - lol

But lottery imo

With the 15th pick in the 2023 NBA draft, the Toronto Raptors select (Adam Silver voice)...

Mouhamed Gueye from Washington St University.

Hardy is another good comparison and he would likely get drafted higher if that draft was redone.

Another name that I hear come up is Cole Anthony who had very similar numbers at UNC. I am a fan of the Magic version of Cole Anthony, and I think George still has better shooting mechanics than Anthony and is also a better playmaker. Anthony went 15th in 2020.

As GS said, he's still well in range. He might be out of range from buying or trading for a late 1st now thought.

Gueye and Coulibaly are my two outlier picks that would crash Real GM. I do see them both as NBA players down the line and love their upsides.

Gueye in particular is seemingly forgotten, but he is a freak athlete at his size. Guys like JT Thor and Kai Jones got picked and I think Gueye has much better passing numbers and is just as good an athlete as Thor. I still don't think he gets picked where Toronto picks, but weirder things have happened.

He's definitely interesting considering he's 6'10 with a 7'4 wingspan and he posted solid numbers across the board as a soph.

I think we need to put together common themes in the Raptors drafting process to gauge who would meet the criteria that they covet.

Physical themes:
Athleticism
Size
Length

Character themes:
Winning mentality
Team oriented
Hard worker

Stat themes:
This is where I need the forum to help me out. Since Masai came onboard what are the common stats we should be looking for?

Ah yes, joining other NBA stars from the WAC who won POTY such as Martex Harrison, Daniel Mullings, Kyle Barone, Deonte Burton... need I continue?

Don't do that. Other notable WAC POTY include:
Danny Ainge
Tim Hardaway
Keith Van Horn
Andre Miller

And a few other decent pros.
Not a good sign you gotta go back to the 20th century to fin danother one
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

My guess would be steals / blocks

We put a high emphasis on IQ as well. Poeltl, FVV, Scottie, Siakam, OG are all smart players that understand how to play and are open to coaching which is important.

WIn Shares, BPM (DPM over 2.5) are all good advanced stats we target. Deflections, stl/blk rates are important for us as well

I don't think he's going to make it in any high level league. That said I think he's worth bringing under the umbrella during the summer and then maybe even a camp invite to get his G rights just to see if the team thinks they can push him in the right direction.

You are probably right. Maybe he is worth only a camp invite, but the NBA and Raps especially are willing to take on projects with his size and athleticism. Kao started basketball really late and seems like he could have a Chris Boucher type of career. I just think he is a guy to track because he fits our prospect archetype because he looks like a C yet switchable on guards. He barely played at Memphis, but at UT he had impressive block numbers.

Absolutely. What do you lose bringing him to camp and getting a closer look?

Yes.

How talented they are / their fit as a team is a different story.

Dan Tolzman spoke about rebounding for position as an indicator of competitiveness.
