I am liking Jarace Walker quite a bit as defensive PF/small ball 5 that can guard all 5 positions and is likely one of the best defenders coming out of this draft

I still think we trade anything that isn't #1. But if we do end up keeping the pick, for whatever reason, we definitely need to find an ideal three/four and explore trading Ant independently.

Since this is sort of our 2023 offseason thread, I will say I think it's a little funny that Shaedon's 11 FTA last night were more in a game than Ant has ever done and I think bodes well. He's got such great body control and as has been pointed out constantly, he's incredibly good at getting low coming off screens. He's showing a willingness to draw contact in the paint and he absorbs it well.

Walker is my guy if we dont get 1. I like him more than Brandon Miller personally. Has some Marion to him, some Dray, some Millsap. Just alot to like and a great motor to boot.
Long term the defense, versatility, passing potential bodes well as a compliment to Sharpe's pure athleticism and scoring power IMO.

Re: What to do about the draft? (2023 Tank + Draft Thread)
Watched the scouting report on Hendricks and that kid has a ton of tools. Much more skill on offense than Jarace with some real defensive talent as well. Looks like a Bobby Portis as a middle ground with the talent to be a 20/10 and more guy. 39% from 3 and 78% from the line both w/ decent volume - hard to not be optimistic he is a true shooter at the next level.
Reported he has a 7'3 WS as well which would be huge for any draft grade.
My board looks like this ATM -
1. Victor Wembanyama C
2. Scoot Henderson G
3. Jarace Walker FC
4. Taylor Hendricks F
5. Anthony Black GF
6. Brandon Miller F
7. Amen Thompson G
8. Asur Thompson G
9. Cam Whitmore F
10. Keyonte George G
Still not really sure how to rate the Thompson twins. The athleticism really pops (Especially for Amen). But they have some of the wonkiest shooting mechanics I have ever seen. Then again, the same was said about Ja.

Re: What to do about the draft? (2023 Tank + Draft Thread)
This looks like a good draft.
With Wemby, Brandon Miller, the 6’7 Thompsons, and Jarace Wallace and Hendricks, the Blazers can get talent and size/length. Yes, Scoot has value, too, of course. And my dark horse favorite at 5-7: Gradey Dick. If the pick is traded to go all in, then the value is really strong.
I definitely want to see a draft day deal (or two) regardless of whether the pick is traded or not. The sooner the Blazers know whether the BIG deal gets pulled off or not, the sooner they can keep or trade the lottery pick to surround Dame or instead of Dame in a rebuild. To maximize either way, it means doing all the dealing at the earliest day.
Or just win Wemby and swing a deal for a serious forward and backfill with best possible.

Let’s say we end up in #2 or #3 and Toronto is #10. The premise of the deal would be something revolving around Scoot for OG + #10. The only contracts we have to make that work is Simons which is an overpay or Nurk which leaves us capped out and without much of a center rotation.
Simons almost has to be traded in a separated deal but we still need a starting caliber SG back, and I don’t know what that team would be?
In addition I don’t know what deals we’re pulling off that firmly puts us in conference contender status.
Let’s say for **** and giggles we were able to flip our 1st, Simons, and Nurkic for Dinwiddie, Bridges, and Myles Turner and we re-sign Grant. How good is our team? I have no idea…

We can simply roll with Thybulle and Sharpe at SG and move Simons for a big. Make TOR take on Nurkic as salary matching if they want Scoot.
But I dont think OG is worth it. He is a elite role player. We need more than that. Basically need to add a Pascal / Butler / Brown level guy to get in any sort of serious conversation - while hoping that Jerami doesnt whine about rightfully being relegated to a distant #3.

Randle's out for the rest of the regular season. Ouch.. Not great news for chances to grab Knicks' pick. I still think they are going to land 6th seed but the margin could be narrow there.

The Knicks are 11 games over .500 with 5 to play, and the lottery line is about .500.

Team is sitting in fine shape to get one of Jarace Walker or Brandon Miller and it would be fine if they had to settle for one of the Thompson twins.
The conversations between Dame/Portland management will shape how Portland proceeds this off season. Let's say Dame gives Portland a list of teams where he would like to go. He has his extension and now (like Drexler) can be traded to an honest contender. It'll be interesting what comes back in return for there will be a void in veteran leadership for Ant, Shaedon and our lottery pick will need the same type of guys that Ant had last spring when Josh Hart and Winslow were around.

I think Walker is gonna be really good, would not be the least bit upset if the Blazers draft him. I would honestly take him over Scoot at 2 if I was a teams GM.

They are 4 games over the play-in spot. That could eventually be a narrow finish.

Check out Taylor Hendricks - I was pretty shocked at how fluid he looked for a 6'9 guy, and his shot mechanics are pretty great.
Walker has the special combo of bulk and quick twitch, and is more cerebral, but Hendricks has alot to like as well.
Wont get into Scoot, who I think is still #2, but both Hendricks and Walker are a tier or more above Brandon Miller IMO.

Re: What to do about the draft? (2023 Tank + Draft Thread)
It's probably been discussed at length, but what do we think the lowest our pick has to be to not trade it? Like, do we hold on to the 3rd or 4th pick or are we thinking we look to package that up?
I don't know much about the guys in the draft but if someone like Miller is going to be there do you draft him or trade out? What is the consensus on the strength of the draft?

Re: What to do about the draft? (2023 Tank + Draft Thread)
Philly Trades: Embiid
Philly receives: Irving, Lotto Pick, Future Pick
Dallas trades: Irving
Dallas receives: Simons, Nurkic, & Little
Portland trades: Simons, Nurkic, & Little, 2023 Lotto Pick, Future Pick
Portland receives: Embiid
Why for Philly?
Maybe Kyrie just needs his own team to excel. Philly gets a high lottery pick and future pick to build on.
Why Dallas?
They move on from Irving, who has not helped at all and is reportedly an issue in the locker room. They get the center they are missing and get young talent to build on.
Why for Portland?
Pretty obvious!

Embiid isn’t getting traded. Even if the Blazers had the #1 pick and offered it to Philly, I don’t think they take it unless Embiid demanded out.

Re: What to do about the draft? (2023 Tank + Draft Thread)
I’m all in on Brandon Miller. I like Hendricks too, but his lack of ability to put the ball on the floor scares me a little bit…
I see Miller as basically a better rebounding Jerami Grant…with the potential to be a better shooter. If you can get that on a rookie contract, that’s a boon.
In today’s NBA I’m not into the players that can’t shoot…

I look at this and I see a player that can come in and make an impact right away with length and shooting.

I see Walker somewhere between Draymond Green and Scottie Barnes. He's 2nd on my board as well. I don't rank Scoot all that highly.
I got:
1. Wemby
2. Jarace
3. Miller
4. Amen
5. Scoot
6. Henricks
