Re: Clips 5-7 in the Russ Era; Paul George hurts leg
This is a clear downside of load management. I'm generally in favor of it, but you can't deny that if the Clippers had played together all season and had chemistry then this injury wouldn't be so damaging. You leave the chemistry part to the end of the season and a little bit of bad luck can derail a season.
I've always said about Russ, you're never going to hide his defense. The only hope you have of keeping him efficient is him getting to the line as much as possible. With George out I don't see a lot of players who can pick up the scoring slack. Gordon a little bit. However Westbrook has an opportunity here to get hot at just the right time and help the Clippers till George reintegrates. Lue just needs to ban midrange completely and limit 3pt shooting to 1 per game for Russ. Give him a lot of shots and play at a very high pace. That's the best you can get out of Russ.
It would be good if they get Covington back in the rotation and maybe he beats out Morris by the time playoffs roll around. Clips really need that 3 & D element.

Re: Clips 6-7 in the Russ Era
Good bounce-back win over OKC last night in Russ' 13th game.
Gordon replaced the injured George in the starting lineup. Gordon had been playing backup point, but that was handed off to Bones Hyland, who performed well.
The Clips basically played 9 men. They're missing both George and Norman Powell. Hyland has to come through now, and he might be able to do that, at least for the short haul. He can score. Possibly Lue will give RoCo some more looks as well with George out.
Russ filled the scoring void of George, finishing with 24 on the night.

Ugly loss tonight at home to the Pels.
There's still like 8 minutes left in the game, but this one is all over.

I really thought the clippers were gonna hit the switch after the all star break. I was wrong.

People are suggesting that they're tanking to play the Kings but i don't think teams are genuinely doing that. Im sure teams would rather play them, but, that's a dangerous game. Nothing guarantees you'll get the 6th seed

Strong win tonight over the Bulls in LA.
Russ had 12/5/10.
Marcus Morris missed the game with illness. Batum started in his place and had 24/3/5.
Lue is going to need to rethink Morris' minutes, IMO.

Damn, its crazy how certain coaches get the maximum out of some journeymen players. Dennis is like that for Ham

Because it's hilarious that people actually still think he can or should be getting significant burn, so it's a topic of discussion. Once the discussion is one sided, it will subside. Look how much the Ben Simmons talk has fallen off now that even his biggest fans are basically agreeing that he's garbage. lmao.

He’ll probably increase them next game to make up for the minutes he didn’t play tonight

I'm telling y'all, Morris is just soaking up regular season minutes to keep Batum and Cov fresh for the postseason. Gordon is the steadiest hand at backup PG; he knows how to get the ball up the floor and move it to the right man and is also a perfectly capable shooter off-ball.
Mann was always there to backup PG and Kawhi when they're injured. He'll do fine there.
Bones picking up the slack from Norm shouldn't be an issue and he's another dynamic player with the ball in his hands.
The defense will return when the Zubac/Batum/Cov rotation returns. It's only a matter of time.

Re: Clips 7-8 in the Russ Era
As it has been mentioned before . Clippers not only got Westbrook. They also picked up Eric Gordon ( lottery pick ),
Bones Hyland and Plumlee.
They all have been getting worked into the rotation.
Then you have the ongoing issues all season.
In no particular order:
- Top 4 defense all season but then you have certain games where they seem to not care and just want to out score their opponents. See vs Kings a couple of weeks ago.
- Turnovers
- before the trade deadline they were getting crushed inside the paint. Getting Plumlee had reduced the abuse in the paint.
- inconsistent line up all season ( kawhi missing 1/3 of season , other players out , Ty Lue not playing many players much )

Re: Clips 7-8 in the Russ Era
The reason why Russ works so well on the Clips is because they didn't have anyone on the team who can consistently make plays like the ones below. The Lakers do have someone that can make them, in LeBron. But the Clips haven't had a real point guard in years, and John Wall washed out this year.
Russ isn't what he was, but he still has great vision and can run an offense. Also, he brings energy and leadership.

They are 7-8 with Russ
They are 33-28 without Russ
Doesn't that seem like they are better without him?

yea but if you don't count the 0-5 run at the beginning (which was TOTALLY not Russ' fault) they are 7-3 with Russ aha!
